As with most things in life, luck and skill. The skill part... well, that's kind of obvious. With luck.... you need to have the luck to be on the right team, right location, right coach. Right team. You need to be surrounded by good players. Right location. You need to be someplace where you will get exposure and play against other good teams. Right coach. You need a coach who knows how to coach high school soccer, who recognizes your talent, knows how to help you develop it and use it, and is willing to be an advocate.
