Thank you for your feedback! I had Hazard on the list but eventually dropped him. The reason I chose Pogba over Hazard is for his European stage performances. But I would agree with you that Hazard was better locally. For my ranking, trophies and vital clutch performances are greatly considered. If you feel that I have overlooked anything, please let me know.
Pogba was all Europa league though which is a big difference to Champions League, it was generally regarded that winning the EL saved his season and Mourinho's also but certainly not a great season. He didn't make ESM team of the month at all that season as opposed to 3 the previous season with Juve and 2 already this season for comparison, I was at a fair few United games that season too and no where near the level of this season under Solksjaer (bar Wednesday vs PSG !!) and he had a lot of poor PL games. Hazard made ESM team of month twice that season and was a much higher level, some big performances too, like away to Man City and also the solo run and finish against Arsenal Another PL player who was great that season and early favourite for PoTY awards until February was Costa, I remember Sky Pundits raving about him and saying he was the most important Chelsea player etc... and he had been in the best form of his career arguably. He had a massive decline though from February onwards after all the speculation about a big money move to China and a fall out with Conte, shame as he was having a great season.
Robin Olsen, the best goalkeeper in the world 2017? And Granqvist. Luan, Sehic and Borja? Where did you come up with these hipster choices?

Haha, there are more surprises coming. But in all seriousness, Sehic and Olsen were the GKs with the ratings, some minor trophies and more importantly the international clean sheets. I am not sure how many career awards a GK like Buffon needs to receive but he for example is far from being the best in Italy 2017, 16 etc. But I suppose it would be a politically appropriate choice, or something along those lines. Luan and Borja you could call an SA shout out. Expect Neymar to be part of those as well as the lists go back in time. Eventually more SA players will be added per year. Granqvist, Swedish player of the year, captained his country pretty well and netted 10 goals if you count the 2017 WC qualifications. I wouldn't say that he was much worse than captain Ramos. But I am open to suggestions.

Return question for you (given your personal ideas): Is Wijnaldum maybe the most 'underhyped' and under-the-radar Dutch player of the past number of years? If not, who else. Gini is boss! 💪💯 pic.twitter.com/urVsVMgzFJ— Liverpool FC (@LFC) February 16, 2019 The Soldier wijnaldum pic.twitter.com/TF6VliOx2b— جيرارديستا (@Q88_saa) April 25, 2018 Is he the most underrated player in the Premier League?Analysing Georginio Wijnaldum's importance to Liverpool: https://t.co/qE7QlHkx72 pic.twitter.com/cHO4N6DzjD— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) February 4, 2019 Gini Wijnaldum.Underrated?#LIVBOU #LFC pic.twitter.com/SPleM08PaT— Match of the Day (@BBCMOTD) February 9, 2019 Despite all the midfield acquisitions (Keita, Fabinho, Shaqiri) he keeps on being a favored choice & Liverpool doesn't play as well without him (somehow). He has played 30% more minutes than the 2nd used midfielder, and 50% more as team captain Henderson. He was also goal of the month once (2016-17), while not playing in a position for that or was a household name. He can be boring and invisible, yes, and doesn't stick out in something like WhoScored + SofaScore like his compatriot VvD has done the past 3.5 seasons. There's also not really a 'key stat' to mention for him like 'oh, he has so many goals, assists', 'so many clean sheets and so few errors', to point to something to think about and pigeonhole someone.
Well, the most under the Dutch radar player has to be Ruud Vormer, who finally got a cap. What hype/mentions in ratio to quality is concerned, I do think that Wijnaldum is a good candidate but I'd put de Vrij over Wijnaldum, unless there is some sort hype that I missed, apart from his WC XI mention.
A bit late but I can help a little here. The two Spaniards were picked by Helenio Herrera who was their manager at Sevilla. Dolejesi was selected by the West Germany correspondent (not sure why). Boskov was selected by the Swedish correspondent (who also picked his compatriot Ivan Kolev) and I presume was impressed by Bulgaria at the Olympics.
Marcelino García Vaquero was known by the football name of Campanal II. He had a long career as a central defender of Sevilla and in the 1950s was considered one of the best centers in Spain. It was characterized fundamentally by its impressive physical qualities. José García Castro was known by the name of Pepillo. Never played with the absolute Spanish team; yes it did it with the selection B. It emphasized in the Seville in the second half of the decade of the 50; He was signed by Real Madrid, although in the great Madrid of Di Stéfano, Del Sol, Gento, etc, etc, he had few chances to play. Of course, when he did he showed scoring ability. It was ceded to River Plate, a very strange fact in Spanish football at that time. Although they were recognized punctually in France Football, I do not think that neither one of them, go down in history as the elite of Spanish football; it would be very difficult in a hypothetical list of the 100 best Spanish footballers in history. However, they had their good time.

Interesting post, Phil Thompson (former Liverpool captain and 3 time EC winner) said a very similar thing on Sky Sports yesterday and how he is Liverpool's most important midfielder and such an important player for them without getting the plaudits.
Thanks. You are probably on point about De Vrij. Because he has only 7 caps (6 starts) since 2015 (not only his fault) and there isn't that much attention for Serie A in this country (certainly outside of Juventus) you can say he gets 2-4 times less the attention but is of course not twice as bad (in his position). In Italy itself he's rated fairly high by a number of sources (Gazzetta, the OPTA analysts, TotY shortlist nominations, occasionally named as best Lazio defender since Nesta though the competition for that isn't very awesome), but I was asking the 'underhyped' question from a domestic perspective indeed. Was just curious about how you see this and have been coming up with interesting ideas over the years (Ndidi, Gabi above). Another valid point you have there. Lol, this is not the first time I shoot myself in the foot, working from memory. I recalled a thread from 2015 where Bravo was mentioned as deserving of a Balón for winning everything. So I didn't check much further than Wikipedia's title list in his case. Without the CL title, the "guilty by association" excuse isn't good enough for the list and another GK is warranted. If you have any suggestions on who the best keeper would be for 2015 as well as the podium top 3, I would be very interested to know. Stay sharp!
Ndidi is one those players that come close on various occasions but just miss out. Let's see what the future holds for him. At least he made my WC18 XI. Gabi jumped up in all sources. It can be credited to @Perú FC as well that Gabi and many other picks are on his lists just the same. I actually use his as a reference after I get my own research in. I would argue that his list focuses pretty exclusively on the top 5 nations, with the PFA awards omnipresent. He does seem to pick up on certain clutches or clutch absentees. I wonder why he hardly values the Copa America.
Neuer and Buffon (shared). The first named keeping a high level of performance even though being less decisive and the second knowing a sort of rebirth that placed him at the top again. De Gea is not a great keeper yet. In other terms he never was, it's all about making a dozen of ('handball', so to speak, the sport) saves in the PL. Still is not in 2018-2019 as in February 2019 and he'll have to maintain a world class level during some time if ever he reaches it to be considered a great keeper, in my book. Then of course he did not play against Barcelona in the CL final. He did not play in Europe at all. Discussing 2015 ^ ^^ 3rd? I'd say none but if mandatory perhaps I'd go for Navas who finally took and made the job after a good World Cup during the precedent year. Then (for me) comes De Gea at 4th but not way ahead of Courtois, none of them deserving to make the podium (for me, and they would share the 4th spot actually). Not far behind these two there is Cech as well, who had some good performances with his new club Arsenal and who close my list of the most noticeable keepers 2015. The last three are all PL keepers. Bravo (named by Annoyed) was noticeable as well but doesn't belong to this group.
Merci beaucoup mon ami, With the top 3, I meant players, including GKs. Glavi, for example, put: 1st Lionel Messi, 2nd Cristiano Ronaldo and 3rd Neymar. So Neymar as 3rd/#3.
I have 1 Messi, 2 Neymar, 3 Suarez, 4 C. Ronaldo, 5 Lewandowski CR making his come-back on the podium only in 2017 (1 Messi 2 Suarez 3 Neymar 4 C. Ronaldo 5 Griezmann in 2016, 1. Messi 2 C. Ronaldo 3 Modric 4 Neymar 5 Lewa & Cavani in 2017) Link if I can (if it's deleted I'll understand) : https://footballyesterdayandtoday.blogspot.com/2016/01/world-player-of-year_10.html There's no arguments to accompany these top-5 (+ gk + young player...honourable mentions aren't complete). Have not the time to argue or debate right now but perhaps later. Like with @Glavisted maybe as for the CR placings. I don't find choking to see CR on every podium but in my view at one point he was not there anymore. Then the circumstances and of course his ability to keep that high level of performance + his new story with Juve (so... whilst Real are living that period of transition) all make that he's up there again. That being, I place him 4th two times, not 50th, he's always in the top-5. Well, then, it's in 2010 that I don't have him at all, in the 5.
2013 Alaba Bale Cavani Chiellini CR7 Götze Iniesta Javi Martínez Lahm Lewandowski Mata Messi Müller Neuer Ribery Robben Ronaldinho Schweinsteiger Thiago Silva Van Persie Vidal Zlatan 23rd Pirlo/João Moutinho/Nemanja Matić/Suárez/Alex Sandro Podium 1 Ribery 2 Messi 3 CR7 XI 1 Neuer 2 Lahm 3 Alaba 4 Thiago Silva 5 Chiellini 6 Vidal 7 Robben 8 Ribery 9 Müller 10 Messi 11 CR7
Yes, but at hindsight I think 'annoyed' had the winning answer for this (also tend to agree with him about Buffon as you know, in comparison to DDG etc. not average goallies, and it's a fact he's in the top 5 for clear-cut errors for the past number of years). One reason why 'Gini' crossed my mind is because he had 11 goals (1 pen) for Newcastle, plus 5 open play assists in the league as an attacking midfielder in his sole season. This includes open play goals against Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United, and his team didn't win the two matches he missed. Instead of saying 'that is looking promising, many midfielders at bigger teams don't have those numbers' or something like that, the overwhelming narrative here was 'relegated, he has flopped' (no kidding), thus 'underhyped'. Interesting btw that Newcastle's transfer record is standing for so long. Also nice https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...s-league-news-borussia-dortmund-a8783751.html

I believe you're "on point " here. From the top 2, my pick is Buffon. It would paint a good picture of his longevity. He was never a spectacularly decisive GK, like a young Neuer, but nor was Neuer 2015. So let's just praise the tortoise and the hare for their strengths. 2015 Agüero Alan Carvalho Benzema Buffon Chiellini CR7 Dani Alves De Bruyne Hazard Iniesta Kane Lacazette Marcelo Messi Müller Neymar Piqué Pogba Robben Suárez Tévez Terry Vidal Podium 1 Messi 2 CR7 3 Neymar XI 1 Buffon 2 Dani Alves 3 Marcelo 4 Piqué 5 Chiellini 6 Vidal 7 Robben 8 Neymar 9 Suárez 10 Messi 11 CR7
