Not sure that Genk could pay that much or, if they could, they would pay it for that matter. $400k a year in wages isn't a big deal for Anderlecht or the like, but Genk aren't the richest team in that league, so paying those wages, plus agent's fees and fringes on a player who they'll have to flip within 1-1.5 seasons to make any profit is a big commitment for them.
It's something they'd do for a 21-year old who could be the next Benteke or even Aaron Johansson; not for a guy who'll be 26 three weeks after the season starts. At his age, he's about as good as he's going to be

Excellent point. Time for his agent to look up some interest in China.

Can anyone tell me how long yellow cards last?

My need to bitch about Zardes in USMN&A has overcome my indifference to being banned from that forum.

This might be the most motivated I have felt in years!

Don't even know what will happen to USMN&A without you bashing Zardes. There is basically nobody else bitching about him over there.

Yea, my prediction for success would range somewhere between Brek shea and Kei Kamara.

I can't believe they didn't put quotations around the word "star" in that headline. If Zardes is a star, I don't know what to say.

If watching that Sunderland docuseries on Netflix taught me anything it’s English clubs can be run by idiots and spend tons of money on crap players so there’s hope for Gyasi

Maybe Alex Hunter put a good word in for Zardes.

Well, he banged in 19 goals in MLS last season. He was far and away our top domestic goal scorer.

Next up was Bunbury with 11.

Make of that what you will.

As soon as fanatics find this thread they'll contend being honest about his abilities means we don't want him to succeed.

Like Mike, MLS is where he belongs now, but if he's given a top 5 league opportunity somehow, and departs, you certainly can't blame him for believing in himself and trying. If only some of us had more. Just doesn't project to a favorable outcome and likely won't be good for the rep of Americans in Europe/England.

People can scoff @ Zardes and the reported interest all they want (I admit I am far from his biggest USMNT supporter) but the economics of a player like him make too much sense for English clubs for there not to be some interest.

where else are they going to find a striker who scored 19 league goals in a league as good as MLS for the amount of money that they could likely get Zardes for???

how much would a player who just scored 19 in the championship go for??

if zardes is such a dumb move for these clubs - who are the cheaper or even comparably-priced alternatives that are so much better than him? i want names.

for perspective pulisic just went for 70m$

    No he isn’t.

He has the touch of a brick wall.

Nothing would shock me more than to see him succeed in England.

He has some speed, strength, athleticism, positional discipline, commitment. He works hard, he’s a good guy, a good teammate. He can beat a man to the end line. He scores goals and plays well with teammates. He has scored some big international goals.

    He just has horrible touch.

    What’s your point exactly?

A number of players have done well in MLS and crashed horrifically at that level of English football. Eddie Johnson, Brek Shea, Jozy Altidore and Kei Kamara off the top of my head.

The speed of play at tha level is incredible.

Gyasi has legitimately one of the worst touches I’ve ever seen.

He will not be a success.

transfer market has him @ 4 mil - that's less than 7 other players Fulham bought in 2018 summer window - 4 of them for +15m pounds - his price is peanuts for these teams. a lot for MLS - but pocket change for english teams (which is my point).

Berhalter is really good with CF’s

And Zardes has huge technical faults, but the guy is really smart with his runs in the box and has pretty decent finishing ability.

He’s also very strong defensively for an attacker and runs all game. Really too bad he can’t trap or pass the ball.

Because he scored a ton of tap-ins and Berhalter's system creates a lot of easy chances for forwards.

He actually underperformed his xG total by 1.59.

He can position himself pretty well, but his ball skills are appalling.
