So proud of the boys. Huge improvement for them the last couple of games. The 5-0 lost to North Korea is an huge improvement. 7 years ago we lost to them 21-0. Yes, 21-0. Also we tied Chinese Taipei yesterday. (Which we should have won :/)
Matao look ahead to AFC event - Pacific Daily News Guam's next games are in March 2013. The MLS season begins March 2 so it is likely that Ryan Guy (NE Revolution) and AJ DelaGarza (LA Galaxy) will not be available.
Up for the challenge 3 matches in 5 days. In the recently concluded East Asian Cup, Guam had 4 matches in 7 days. The AFC seems to like to schedule tournaments games close together. What's the hurry?
Hafa Adai! My name is Dominic Gadia and I am with the Technical Department of the Guam Football Association. We would like to announce that we are planning to hold an open try-out for players eligible and interested in playing for our national teams. The try-out will take place in San Diego, California on January 26 and 27, 2013. We are currently seeking players for our senior national teams with an emphasis on the MNT, the "Matao", who will be competing in the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers next year in March. Please help spread the word to interested players, coaches, and clubs. We would like to eventually create a database of all eligible players based in the United States and abroad. You can contact me here through the forums or e-mail the Guam Football Association for more information. info@guamfootball.com Your help and support is much appreciated. Thank you, Dominic Gadia Technical Department Guam Football Association
Guam gets noticed for improved play on the pitch. http://www.guampdn.com/article/20121223/SPORTS/212230309
2012 was definitely a good year for the Mataos. http://www.guampdn.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2013301010323
Recruiting abroad is always a key to success for national teams. It strengthens the national team, provides more interest to the national team, and gets players focusing on achieving something in football. I wonder if they are any Guam players in Europe...?
I just listened to the podcast attached to the article, and no wonder the future of the island looks promising with him on the call. His massive knowledge for grassroots development has been his definite asset and I think won't be outmatched in the next few years. I personally am amazed on how he has turned the fates of small island nations he has managed (British Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Guam). Wishing Guam all the best! Maybe a slot in the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup final stage will be a big boost for them, wouldn't it?
Ian Mariano just signed a short term contract(which could be extended after 3 months depending on how he does) with Pachanga FC of the UFL in the Philippines where he joined Jason Cunliffe. Another Guamanian Romero plays for Kaya FC as well.
Younger generation will surpass older players - Coach Gary White's bi-weekly column in the Pacific Daily News
The Mataos had a training match with the Thai second division club, Samutprakan Customs United FC. They tied 1-1.
While the Philippines is gaining ground in the international football scene, players from neighbouring Guam think that playing here would be the best way to develop the sport back in their hometown. “It’s an opportunity to play in a little bit of a higher level,” said Guam football team captain Jason Cunliffe, who plays for Pachanga Diliman FC in the United Football League. “It would make our national team stronger.” http://www.interaksyon.com/interakt...ing-stone-towards-developing-football-at-home
