Yeah, you tell people in Cleveland and Columbus that they're "Southern." That goes over well.;)

The North goes as far down into IN as the glaciers did. IOW, about 40 miles south of Indianapolis.

Southern Ohio is littered with Confederate sympathizers which always blows my mind whenever I drive through there. But they eat lots of the same food as northern Ohioans. You don't see as much fried shit as you would here in Luhlvlle.

My wife and I used to live in southern Minnesota (same town as BS poster Dogface does now, actually). One day I was walking to work. I went past the American Legion hall. The doors will open. An overpowering smell nearly knocked me into the street. Ahh, geez, I thought (I was going native), someone died there and they just found the body after a couple of days.

I got to work, asked if they found a body in the Legion building. Politely pretending not to take offense, I was informed that they were preparing lutefisk, and that I really should try some.

I politely didn't articulate the personal policy I just made up on the spot: "I never eat anything that smells worse than my feet."

    Goetta begs to differ.

I'm not sure I should be admitting this, but my local grocery store has lutefisk available in the meat section. ;)

Covington is Cincy and Louisville is another midwest town according to Kentuckians. That's drawn up by the basketball lines whicih is bigger than the political lines. :D

Kentucky was a Union State, so that makes them Northerners in my book. Northerners who talk funny.

And that's putting it nicely. Thankfully, Hollywood will never able to fully describe the horror of that smell...unless they go back to the use of Smell-o-vision. And there might even be a law about yelling "lutefisk" in a crowded theater.

The people who eat it? Cult :p

I see Kentucky, along with West Virginia, Southern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania as Northern Appalachian (I'd love to throw Indiana in there but I can't argue with the map). They didn't have much use for slavery, but they're still rural, guns-and-religion and such. They're Northern, but they're not Coastal Elite either.

I agree, but there's some cracking good stuff here:

"The more survivors, the more lies that are told."

A member of the Nationalist Socialist Party in his younger days, Jones took part in the Nazis’ march on Chicago’s Marquette Park in 1978. While he doesn’t deny nor repudiate his “past affiliations,” he says he votes Republican “90 percent of the time.”

    I like that one.

“Philosophically, I’m a National Socialist,” Jones said. “Officially, I don’t belong to any party except my own, the America First Committee.”

Catchy name. Not sure how being a member of a party whose ass we helped kick is putting America first, but whatever.

Personally, this next one cheered me up quite a bit.

Jones hopes three’s a charm after blowing his retirement savings on two prior congressional runs. He hopes to win the Republican primary and go on to challenge Lipinski this November. The 3rd District covers portions of Chicago's South Side and a large swath of the south suburbs.

Wonder whose going to take care of him when he loses again. The next one is pretty good:

“(The committee) was bragging on their website how (Lipinski) is ‘spearheading’ the effort in the House of Representatives with a Jewish congressman from Virginia named Frank Wolf,” Jones said. “The two are spearheading an effort in the House to get tough with Iran, including closing off any oil exports to China that could lead to World War III.”

While Jones said Wolf was Jewish, he is Presbyterian.

In any case, it's pretty clear why he's running:

Jones compares today's conditions in the United States to Germany following the end of World War I.

“Our country is falling apart economically, politically, culturally, militarily,” he said. “We are going down.”

Hey, Hitler seized power under those very same conditions, why wouldn't Jonesy make a run at it?

In his Patch candidate questionnaire, Jones submitted that he's not been convicted of a felony but has been arrested for "minor street skirmishes with Leftists."

I've never heard "cops" called "leftists" before.
