Re: GOLD CUP Travel/Tickets: USA versus Canada in DETROIT SON 6/7/2011 Wow. Glad to see so much activity here. Will there be psyched contingent or no? I hope to see some out for a memorable and meaningful night. Never been to Motown so here goes yeah?
Re: GOLD CUP Travel/Tickets: USA versus Canada in DETROIT SON 6/7/2011 Yes. Motor City Supporters (MCS) and other soccer-starved fans will be out in numbers.
Re: GOLD CUP Travel/Tickets: USA versus Canada in DETROIT SON 6/7/2011 I'll be there for some reason.
Re: GOLD CUP Travel/Tickets: USA versus Canada in DETROIT SON 6/7/2011 will be going....quick trip as work is a bitch that time of the month. probably fly out in the morning, hit some of my favorite detroit spots, go to the match and ly out first thing the next day
Re: GOLD CUP Travel/Tickets: USA versus Canada in DETROIT SON 6/7/2011 Detroit hasn't hosted a US game since the World Cup and before that they hosted this game against the Commonwealth of Independent States (Soviet Union) [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QDUgZz3Bys"]YouTube - Feb. 2, 1992: USA vs. CIS - Highlights[/ame] I am so psyched for this game. I think if there is any game Americans need to turn out for in the Gold Cup it is this one. It's Canada.
Re: GOLD CUP Travel/Tickets: USA versus Canada in DETROIT SON 6/7/2011 We will be there but I don't want to push any agenda on some people who could care less about MLS. We will make noise, party and make sure people go home knowing there are soccer fans in Detroit. If you want to know more about MLS in Detroit or what we are doing look for guys wearing these scarves. Bring it on Canada!
I'm so excited for a border rivalry game in one of our great border cities. Should be a sick atmosphere on all counts. I've never been to Detroit, but I'm excited to go. What's the one attraction that you locals would recommend to check out while there? We have a day and half sort of.
Don't let my username fool ya, I was born and bred in the mitt. When I joined bigsoccer in 1999, I just happened to be in LA. Now I'm back. For those coming to Detroit, know that the area surrounding Ford Field is actually quite nice. It's not terribly different than other urban hotspots. There are a ton of bars in the immediate vicinity of Ford Field and Comerica Park, which are side-by-side. I can't say I have any particular favorites amongst the bars. A lot of people like the Elwood, which is literally right outside Ford Field. If you're up for a drive, the best BBQ, in my opinion, is Sloes. It's a local hotspot and worth the trip. For things to do during the day, Greek Town and Royal Oak offer plenty of distractions.
Motor City Brewing Works in the Midtown area is pretty great, and is right around the corner from my favorite jukebox ever at Bronx.
I'm taking Amtrak up there. If anyone is interested; it's 81 bucks one way for 15 hours total from NYC to Toledo is 14 with an hour bus ride to D-Town. I'm curious to see how many would like to come along with me.
im flying in and out of DTW. getting into town the morning of the 7th, leaving the morning of the 8th.
I know Spirit flies from AC to Detroit for $59, nonstop one way. I know you boys hate Jersey but I am just saying $59 is pretty cheap for a flight.
I'm going to admit that I exclusively fly with American because of the miles I have accumulated and also I get a lot of First Class upgrades but my flight home is 176.99. The biggest issue for me this trip is that I won't have a car but only public transit and Detroit is a shady city as best with public transit so this should get interesting.
