U.S. v. Canada (Detroit) 45k? U.S. v. Panama (Tampa) 35k? U.S. v. GLupe (KC) 19k (sellout) Thoughts? Really interested in thoughts on U.S. v. Canada from Ford Field.
Only 40k in Detroit? I think anything under 40k will be a huge disappointment. Ford Field will be configured to seat 60k according to reports. I can see somewhere around 7-10k Canucks coming over. Surely Detroit and the surrounding areas can muster up 40k people?
Hopefully I'm on the low side, if Canada comes out with a lot of support from across the border I could see it being up to and over 50K
Y'all are way too optimistic. Based on last Cup, I'd say U.S. v. Canada (Detroit) 30k U.S. v. Panama (Tampa) 25k U.S. v. GLupe (KC) 19k (sellout) And I might be overshooting on those guesses. But I'm more than glad to be wrong.
well IIRC Detroit got about 15k for a women's friendly. I'd expect much better numbers for a legit men's game. The problem is that the last international played in Detroit was the 94 world cup. No one really knows what kind of turnout they'll bring.
Cowboys Stadium 80K Home Depot Center 24K Ford Field 35K (More if it were a weekend) Bank of America Stadium 69K FIU Stadium (sellout) Raymond James Stadium 40K Soldier Field 60K Red Bull Arena (Sellout but some empty seats) KC Soccer Stadium (Sellout but no empty seats.)
No way. 7-10 thousand dont even show up for games in Toronto when Team Canada plays. It is mostly the other team's fans that show up. I say 2K Canadian Supporters at most.
Last Fall they got between 30k and 35k for a friendly between AC Milan and Panathaikos. There is a market for soccer here, I'd say at least 40k.
canadian fans will get out numbered even if the gold cup was in canada for the simple fact that canada is a muliti cultural country, so most of the people living there will support the country their parents is from. thats basically canada in a nutshell. most of the people living in canada are originally from another country or their family is so when it comes to soccer those people support where ever it is them or their family is from. thats why you see the canadian fans getting out numbered at some home games. just look at the canadian players background de rosario's is of Guyanese descent Jaime peters is of Grenadian descent Pedro Pacheco is Portuguese Atiba Hutchinson is of Trinidadian descent de guzman could have represented Jamaica and a few of the other players got European background.
I live in Windsor right accros from Detroit. What date is the U.S. Canada game? Im sure its in Detroit for good reason. 300,000 Canadians 15 mins from Ford field right accross the border. But I doubt there will be much of a Canadian turn out since there isn't much marketing of the tournament in Canada. Basically word of mouth.
No, that is not "Canada in a nutshell.'' This is the common judgment from people who've only ever visited Toronto with its high rate of new immigration. Problem is that it's kind of like a person visiting Las Vegas and concluding the United States is just a giant nation of casinos. When it comes to soccer there's still a cultural and regional divide between it and other traditional canadian sports such as hockey and the CFL in terms of those who watch it and play it. Soccer still tends to be the sport of new immigrants. Canada has a high number of first generation players and lopsided "home" crowds for the same reasons the americans do. The sport is not yet a part of the mainstream national culture so the people who play (seriously) and watch it are overwhelmingly those who have just come from a place where it is. It's true that Canada is a nation of immigrants but the vast majority have been here so many generations that loyalties to the old world have vanished the same way they have in Argentina and the United States. For the overwhelming majority of the 35 million Canadians, hockey is the nationalist sporting passion. Even the U20 world hockey championship brings the country to a standstill and draws mind boggling television ratings. If you saw any of the Vancouver Olympics you would fully understand what I mean.
So based on previous figures posted on this thread: Cowboys Stadium: 80K/80K = 100% capacity Home Depot Center: 21.5k/24K = 89.6% capacity Good numbers thus far. Are attendance figures out for Detroit?
I have to correct my previous post (see above), it was erroneously based on false assumptions on my part. This is more like it: Cowboys Stadium: 80K/80K = 100% capacity Home Depot Center: 21.5k/27K = 79.6% capacity Ford Field: 28.2k/65k = 43.4% capacity
The next three days should be really good in terms of % capacity. Although Tampa closed off the upper deck.
Well only 28K+ showed up, I was at the game, pretty disappointed. I was also disappointed that the Guadalupe girls were not at the game, I remember 4 years ago in Chicago, some hot Guadalupe women showed up. I bet Mexico-Guadalupe in Detroit would have gotten 50K. Very close on the Detroit game.
MatchDay 4 in Charlotte: 46,012 Pretty disappointing for a double header involving Mexico and Central American teams.
I was at that game. Alot more were there for the mexico vs. iceland friendly. but the lower level was almost full. the upper level wasn't full at all.
