Aaaaaand this is what I don't like about The Eagles. Frey co-wrote One Of These Nights, which is among my fave Eagles tunes and a super fun tune to play on bass (all the way thru, not just the intro), but youtube doesn't have the original version, AFAIK.
He did, but he did not like singing it and it was a source of great contention and division between Meisner and Co founders of the band Frey and Henley. Given Meisner was out of the Eagles, by the time Hotel California had been recorded and that the song was written by Meisner, Frey and Henley, I lay pretty good odds it was Frey and Henley who took Meisner's initial work and turned it to the song it became. Having heard Frey sing it live in the later reunion tours, I thought his version was fantastic.
Can't blame the Eagles entirely for that. It seems all record companies today are clamping down on licensing and copyright infringements. Bastards!
About 5 years ago Mrs Scouse and I drove down to Cabo san Lucas. Just north of Cabo is the cool artist community town of Todos Santos. One night we were having a couple of Corona's and excellent shrimp tacos there when they played the Eagles doing "Hotel California" Huge applause from in here.
