They would be favourites without doubt but Bayern is still a team capable of beating them on a good day and with all important players available.

Ah, I see, so Bayern's plan is to get Messi to play for them against Real. In order to fool UEFA, just pretend that he is Daniel Van Buyten, and that he got some really strange disease that made him a foot shorter. Platini should believe it.

Another Italian team out. Looks like Germany is going to keep that 3rd spot for a while.

While Hannover and Schalke both advance.

In the end, Italy is left with only one team in Europe for the quarterfinals. Germany still has 3. The coefficient gap has actually now increased between Italy and Germany.

Seriously this thread can be closed because, there won't be any "Germany vs. Italty" for the 3rd CL spot in at least the next 2-3 years.
Between Germany and Italy is now the biggest gap in the whole freaking ranking and it's actually more likely for Germany to have a shot at the top2 than Italy getting the 3rd place back anytime soon (Germany outscored Italy now in all of the past 5 seaons).
Even France and Portugal are at the moment closing in to Italy.

Two German and Spanish teams going head to head in the EL, and probably Bayern and Madrid in the semis of the CL too... Good luck

We could also be seeing an all Spanish final in both, the Europa league as well as the Champions League.

Damn, that is a strong league. Barca and Madrid may be way above the rest, but the rest ain't to shabby, are they?

Also, Italy's last remaining team has to go against Barcelona.

Yeah, I didn't mention it because well, Spain doesn't have to worry about Italy taking our 2nd place anytime soon.

TFC17 and Davey Gorgeous, did you really think it was classless of Barca to keep looking for more goals?

I was sorry to see Bayer beaten by such a score, but I generally like to see a winning team continue to go for more goals. Isn't it much more boring when you see a leading team park the bus to hang on to their lead? That's what I usually find classless. I think a team that continues to press for more goals is also more fair to the other team, because that way the team that is down will have a better chance of equalizing since the other team's defense will be more open.

You two agreeing on this is not the first time I've heard this sentiment from Italians. On other boards I've also seen Italians describing a winning team continuing to look for goals as just beating a dead horse. Is this a part of Italian football philosophy (not trying to razzle you here, just to understand): that it's better for a leading team to ease up a little, to preserve the lead and also to not humiliate the team that is down?

I understand where you come from and respect your opinion, but to me this demonstrates a completely different mentality and I would always say that the winning team that seeks more goals shows true class.

if fergie and wenger leave, to be replaced with the kind of retards that have ended up with city, liverpool and chelsea, he will be correct. it will be like a self imposed reimposition of the heysel ban.

This season only, Germany leads by 3.1 points(until now, no italian team left, Bayern in the semis, hopefully Hannover too)

    Overall points advantage, 14.4:eek:.
