And what kind of stats would be approbriate to look at? How often Özil has been within a reach of 20m to the corner flag?

We could look at key passes, forward passes, take-on percentage, tackles... What's your criticism of his WC performance exactly?

By the way, he's really very comparable with James, Robben, Neymar, and Mueller in all those stats I mentioned; up there with the best wingers of the WC.

He didnt play as a winger. But some sort of inverted AM. Espeically seen in the kockout stages. He didnt provide width to our game so everything relied on the right, the Müller side. Vast parts through the tourney he was totally nonxistant, freeloaded through the tourney and pretty much everybody agreed on that here last year. Id go as far to say that with Schürrle or Reus starting we'd have looked better through the tourney.

That has nothing to do with the fact that Hoewedes was playing on the left and he was useless offensively most of the time?

Oezil's heat map versus Algeria here is primarily left-sided, sure he's no Antonio Valencia, but that's modern football, you don't always need a classic winger glued to the byline:

I think you should have started this discussion last year. I know that Muricans are some sort of into all those lovely stats of the world when it comes to sports but that doesnt change my impression of him when he was actually playing. Özil is no winger. He is an AM. And fielding him with our other fancy AMs with him moving to the center time and time again is not the best way we can play. Özil needs to be fielded as AM or left out of the team. Anything else is a stopgap solution.

He's one of the best AM in the world and a decent winger. Don't know what you're talking about seriously.

I'd like to see more offensive balance in Ozil's game. He is almost 100% looking to pass making his game predictable. He needs to take more shots and try to become a goal threat which will open things up for everyone around him...

I did; we clashed over how well Mesut was doing in the WC last year as well.

I hope Loew would then rather go with :
    Neuer:
RB---Boateng-Hummels-LB (Not sure about our RB and LB positions)
    -------Schweinie----------------
    ---Gunddogan----Kroos-------
    Muller-------Oezil--------Goetze

Why discuss Hummels after this game? The own goal wasn't his fault at all. He was just average.

If you want to talk about bad players you should rather mention the invisible Özil, and especially Can who isn't a right back and even has trouble playing clean passes.

I wasn't talking about the own goal, that was just unfortune. His positioning was terrible throughout the game. Özil was bad too I agree. Can was better than last match so you can see progression. In the dying minute he cleared one ball after the other. I'm fine with that.

Why you say Hummels's positioning was bad? The whole Scottish team was so bad and 89 minutes of football was played at their half..I think both the goals conceded by Germany was bit unfortunate and nobody can be 100% blamed for that

I watched the game yesterday and I think I stated it before here: Jantschke is just not usable for the offense game in Löw's game plan. 0 Torgefahr. Thats why he isnt ever called up.

That's right and not only for the game yesterday.

But .. if the alternative is to play a CB as RB then you can also play Jantschke, who is more agile, has a good passing ability and can also help defending set pieces. On top of it, if one plans with Herrmann you will get a duo with him and Jantschke that is proven for years now.

Is he the solution for the RB misery of the NT? Not really - for Löw's system at least. But should he get a callup nontheless? Well I say yes (obviously a bit biased) despite the problems of Gladbach which you find more in the center than the flanks anyway.
