yes, you're right. that's why i went with my better judgement... the first time. but it's hard to resist poking fun at the most insufferable legend in his own mind to come down the L1 pike since... well, in a long time. the funny part is that i always had a soft spot for PSG before this season. if anyone had told me one day i'd be rooting for the sardines in a classique i'd have told them to get their head examined.
I don't care that you are jealous because even when Lyon dominated french football, the media attention was always on Marseille and PSG, that you are envious because Lyon never made a performance in CL that allowed them to reach the heart of french people, that you are envious because you see Lyon on the decline and PSG back to the top. I don't give a shit about it all. You don't say that Leonardo or anybody else should hang himself. That's all. There is nothing that can make it acceptable.
I thought by now folks got use to the exaggeration, sarcastic, blatant posts some french fans post here though I can see why someone would take offense to a comment about suicide, even with guignol stating it was poking fun
Looks like Marvin Martin is inching closer to Lille. Hazard is an impossible player to replace especially when you dont have an unlimited budget so in that case Marvin Martin is a decent alternative. You cant really expect them to do better much better than that. I wonder what happens to Boudebouz now. Maybe OL will have to settle for him if they miss out on Martin. I think OL was hoping to get them both in a package deal and they may not want them individually.
jealous? envious? me? to be more wrong you would have to say something really ludicrous... like saying ancelotti has done more, with less, than AK did. but jest or not, if my remark got you worked up this badly it was wrong and i need no further reason than that to apologize sincerely.
PSG vs Chelsea at Yankee Stadium in July. First soccer match at the new Yankee Stadium. You just cant buy that kind of buzz or publicity. French teams have failed to generate any buzz even close to that and that includes pre-Qatar PSG. Finally French teams are waking up and trying to market abroad and of course it took foreigners (Qatar's) to do it since the French have no vision. When OL won 7 titles in a row were they able to arrange a match like this ? Nope. Just a bunch of matches in Asia that got little hype. A HUGE missed oppertunity for them when they had so much sucess yet did little to promote their brand. PSG under Capitol Colony were just as bad in terms of marketing and branding. OM same thing. They never play, market, and promote outside of France and its costing them. Leave it to the non French to show the French the way !
taken as a whole i think you're a bit harsh but i agree with you strongly here. especially when SI was ranking them #1 in their world power rating they should have done something; lyon has the added punch of a top class women's team they could have had tour back when the WPS was having trouble filling up their calendar. I even wrote a letter to JMA on the subject but clearly nothing was ever even remotely considered. all too late now.
You're right I was a bit harsh. Also OL sold 2 big players to Chelsea ( Essien & Malouda) and I'm sure Chelsea would have agreed to play a friendly match with them to "return the favor" so to speak, so its strange to me it didnt happen. You and I may not like all this "team whoring" where clubs are playing all over the globe, but football is so different know than it used to be years ago. Its too global now and there's no going back. Either get with the times or get left behind. You can scoff at this if you want, but google "Chelsea PSG Yankee Stadium" and look at all the pages upon pages of hits that come up. PSG doesnt even have to win 1 title yet to generate more buzz than any previous French team did. Maybe its not fair but its reality. Again, it looks like the French need others to help show them the way in terms of promoting and marketing football in the modern era. I dont just wanna pick on OL because OM and PSG pre QSI were just as bad at it.
It's true it's not going back and now we see some leagues and clubs play catch up or some just don't play that game at all and end up suffering the portuguese, holland and brazilian leagues to name some, though each had it's own situation they had giant clubs with world renowned players yet they have been eclipsed in this modern era of heavy tv exposure, online campaigns and tours france produced and still produces some pretty talented players(like holland and brazil) yet their leagues/clubs are not "glamorous" enough to make their players stay which also hurts exposure I dislike saying it and sportboy has already commented on it before but clubs like montpellier/auxerre are also not helping
Portugal and Holland are smaller countries with less money so I'm not sure what more they can do these days. Its too bad the younger generation out there doesnt even know Ajax used to be a big club. There's a rumor that Man City and Lille will play the first match at Lille's new stadium in exchange for selling them Hazard and thats great if its true. Thats the kind of thing OL should have done back when they were selling all those players for huge dollars. Very good publicity.
it's funny you mention that because i was at the chelsea-club america match at stanford where my OL jersey got lots of attention because of these two players, especially flo who got a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win. but it isn't that JMA isn't a marketing whore, it's just that he chose to do the moonpeace cup those years which didn't bring the desired results. the club's desire to market is there but the competency on the ground seems to be lacking. i remember a few years ago trying to help people here who wanted to get jerseys from the OLStore... which had no english language version and NO overseas shipping capability! in the same period i sent information to olweb that OL was rated #1 in the world by SI and that it would make a good story for the site's burgeoning english version... dead letter. coverage of the ladies is catching up on olweb, and as is logical almost all the articles about them are available on the english version, which is also getting better. but when you consider how modest the investment would be, the present state of communication is worse than just disappointing.
OM think they are getting Marvin Martin. http://www.foot01.com/equipe/marseille/l-om-place-ses-pions-dans-le-dossier-martin,88585 Lille have more money than you AND Champions League football. It's over, Sardines.
Mourinho knocks Ligue 1 http://news.maxifoot.fr/info-158152_120513/football.php What an azz. Kaka is hardly one of the great players anymore so playing in France isnt a huge step down. Ligue 1 has a lot of crappy, low budget teams but you never know who's going to win it unlike La Liga where the same 2 teams destroy everyone. Not to mention L1 is much more financially healthy. La Liga is going to collapse under massive debt. F this guy. He'd take PSG's money in a second to manage them.
I kinda agree with that, though his first two clubs weren't that big, and chelsea were in the beginning of the spending era, the rest pretty much a lot of folks claim he is the best of all time but I still think he needs to take a mid club from epl or bundesliga to win it all, or become portugal's coach and take them to a final
Well Auxerre is in L2. Pretty crazy because they were in the Champions League 2 years ago. This is a club I dont really like but Im not going to gloat. They either will come right back up or remain in permanent purgatory like Lens and Nantes. Small town, small budget, small fanbase, so I wouldnt be surprised if they see the National before they see L1 again if ever.
Yeah if he said Benzema or Higuain were too enough for France then I might agree with him and I wouldnt complain since those guys are in their primes but a 30 yr old Kaka come on now.
maybe mou doesnt want to hate his ego, while discussions are going on behind closed does between real and psg
his ego and mental games are pretty good, but there's still somethings he says that have no point in saying
i'd have to have seen the interview and heard the tone of voice to make up my mind. after all, i can admit real and barcelona are superior to french teams and still prefer to watch sochaux-montpellier, and i think mourinho is intelligent enough to realize not all fans are as fixated on the navels of real united and barça city, and that it would be a sad state of affairs for all of football if they were.
MHSC are going to be worthy champions even though I'm not a huge fan of them. That win against Lille yesterday in the dying minutes is what true champions are made of.
chelsea has enough players... and too star stranded and full of ego's .. idk why everyone is so fixated on epl.. there is bayern munich.. there is also juve and milan could use his services
