Report: Mediacom’s Rocco Commisso In Line To Buy Cosmos 1/4/2017 http://www.empireofsoccer.com/report-mediacoms-rocco-commisso-in-line-to-buy-cosmos-56776/
New potential owner gives Cosmos hope for survival, but their fate is tied to NASL's http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2017/01/05/new-york-cosmos-future-nasl-ownership-rocco-commisso
Just a little grassroots club, owned by the guy who owns the fifth-largest cable system in the country.

"And you guys who didn't get paid and got laid off right before Christmas....sorry. Want to re-apply?"
As reported by EoS on Friday, new Cosmos owner Rocco Commisso will now take on the majority ownership role with the team. Sources tell EoS that one of his first actions will be addressing back pay issues and the retention of former staffers and players.
Commisso has a hell of a lot of work on his hands. He basically just bought an expansion team. It's going to be a tall task to get the Cosmos up and running in under 3 months time.
Lots of players are still there, like Maurer, Holt, Richter, Ochieng, Roversio, Mendes, Flores, Bover, Diosa, Calvillo, Velela, Ayoze, Orozco, ... To me, the most difficult part will be how to stop the franchise from bleeding money
Is it possible for them to build a temporary stadium much like the Whitecaps did in the first MLS season? That way they're not paying rent and get some kind of revenue back at games.
Brentgoulet, signing as many of that core as possible would be a great start but I think Roversio, Bover, Ayoze, & Orozco are probably out. As for bleeding money; the stadium is the biggest piece of the puzzle. Does playing at MCU make better financial sense than Hofstra? By how much? I never went to Hofstra but did go to both games in Brooklyn so moving there works for me. The bigger question is how it will it work for the Cosmos; I think attendance will probably be 4 - 6K, basically the same as Hofstra. So will Commisso budget appropriately; no more Sennas or Rauls? Long term [for every team in the USA] owning your own stadium is the best investment an owner can make in a club; Commisso must know this, I wish him luck.
Certainly, they can't get worse dates than they got at Hofstra, no more Sunday evening games would be a nice start. You know New York far better than I do, but a quick Google search makes me think that MCU Park is easier to get to by public transport. In the end, owning your own place is a big part of the puzzle. Does Commisso have the political clout to get a stadium built?
What did these guys make ? 1 million a season ? The Cosmos lost 30 millions over 3,5 seasons, no idea if this can be fixed
Honestly, I didn't expect the NASL, and the Cosmos, to survive. With some teams folding and leaving I really expected some sort of merger. Credit to the existing teams who kept the NASL alive, albeit, with a weak pulse. Can't wait to go to games in MCU park (assuming this is where they will play)
Zulia FC, a Venezuelan club, announced Friday afternoon the signing of Juan Arango and Yohandry Orozco. They are just the latest player departures for the club following the footsteps of Danny Szetela, Jairo Arrieta, Adam Moffat and Lucky Mkosana. Yasmani Duk is also near a loan deal to Saudi club, Al Ettifaq.
Cosmos must sprint to the starting line before they can embark on finishing their 2017 marathon I think this is a good article. When it was written the team had 83 days to do a whole lot. You know like hire a staff, build a team and find a stadium.
So the league is alive for another year. Then Carolina might bolt, Edmonton might join a Canadian league and league owned Jax might fold. Could need 3 expansion sides to just stay afloat in 2018. Where would this leave the Cosmos in 2018?
SD is a decent choice but NASL should probably go fo unpoached market. Try to get Phoenix Rising maybe?
