I'm starting to think that they're just going to build it without releasing any renderings or plans, and then our first look at it will be that first game.:)

Some of us have been around a long time. We were there for playoff games with 4,000 people. We were there for 20 people Cauldrons. And over the years we've gained friends and fans. This is a historic day, a day I honestly thought I would never see. Thank you OnGoal, thank you Lamar for selling us, thank you to everyone involved in helping to "Save the Wizards".

And you know what, it wouldn't be complete without one more message...

F_U_C_K YOU to anyone who has ever mocked KC fans, used our attendance as a reason our city couldn't support a team without acknowledging the ignorance of our ownership and attacked us because you were too short sighted to see that we have something here in KC. I've listened to a lot of crap over years and nothing pissed me off more than fans from cities that could barely get more fans than KC from much bigger markets.

We just got our Blue Hell people, the rest of the league can suck our rainbow.

Hooray, I'm still drinking because of this. Now I can't wait to hear the date of opening day so I can take that entire week off and fly/drive back home to be a part of opening day. There's no way I won't be in the stands on that day.

Great news. I was all set to attend the meeting and have some kind of death flu that had me stuck in bed all day yesterday. Glad to know things worked out!

i'm pretty sure ongoal is funding 71% of the stadium cost, not the $1B overall development. that's what lane4 is for.

I did, too. It's hilarious to read comments from such morons.

This stadium is getting closer and closer to a reality and that scares soccer haters that they will soon be in the minority. They're afraid that their children will start to choose soccer over baseball...I know my dad was. Also I must say that, as a life-long addict to baseball, it's way more boring than soccer. You have to know what's really going on in baseball, strategy and everything, to not get bored out of your mind. There's just soooo much down time, especially when compared to soccer. I think more people are starting to realize that and these people are afraid that if they ever gave soccer a chance they may be disappointed to be proven wrong. I was a lifelong football fan that ended up running cross-country over playing football, and it was amazing how many people claim that not to be a real sport...even though it is the root of all sports...and now I get to hear exactly the same ignorant arguments against soccer. It's starting to become laughable to me.

I will gladly celebrate this new cathedral for our "non-sport"

That sounds more reasonable and likely but it's certainly not what the article says.

What kills me in the comments section is the Johnson County haters and the crime issue that is in that location currently. They don't seem to realize that JOCO shoppers used to frequent Bannister Mall when it was thriving. And does nobody else in the city worry about crime except the "rich soccer moms" of JOCO? Give me a break.

I'm waiting for the Star to start requiring people to sign up to post in the comments section like other newspapers do. Course it's the Star, who are years behind in the Internet age when it comes to newspapers, so we won't see that for a while.

I would echo ManiacGooner's comment, as it pertains to X-Country.

Re: FUNDS APPROVED! - Wizards Stadium Thread v8.4

I agree. Running cross-country is not a sport. I have rules for what is a "sport" and what is not. Those are:

    1. Participants must propel themselves at a reasonable velocity.
    2. There must be an object that is propelled.
    3. There must be active defense or opposition.

Water polo is a sport. Polo is not a sport.
Jai alai is a sport. Boxing is not a sport.
Ultimate frisbee is a sport. Golf is not a sport (it violates both rules 1 and 3).

There are some tough calls, admittedly. Bicycle polo, for one, though I'm inclined to call it a sport. Relay races are the single toughest call.

It's not meant to be a diminuition of other activities, just nomenclature.

Re: FUNDS APPROVED! - Wizards Stadium Thread v8.4

I ran cross country all through high school and can tell you that it is very much a sport.

You know what the football coach at my high school use to do when the players were acting up in practice? He would threaten to send them to our practice. Guess what? They acted perfect for the rest of practice because they were well aware that what we did was 100x tougher than what they did.

So is cycling, marathons, swimming not sports?

In my book running, cycling, swimming are the sports. They are more sports than any other thing out there. They are man vs. man. There are no balls, props, or any other factors. The strongest, fastest, and best athlete on that day wins. There are no officials, obstacles, or other factors that can determine that outcome. That is what I would call a sport.

    Back on topic.....sort of

Now that we are moving forward, I certainly hope we do complete background checks on all of the contractors building Hillcrest Road Stadium. Wouldn't want to see something similar to this: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1956028.ece
