you know when your truly hot when you can sell out an over 22K whole stadium, and that's what the Matildas did besides winning the game/ Brazil had a lil stronger team than the disaster they had at the Tournament of Nations, this time it included Cristiane, Alves & Fabiana. Only Poliana & Camilla were missing. Looks like they did try to mount a comeback towards the end bu fell short. More of the match & highlights below http://matildas.footballaustralia.c...-matildas-v-brazil/14ls8hd0dtlf51owttgb8bj5l3 sort of lukewarm interest on the 'new. improved Frenchies as they gifted us with just two highlight plays in this vid, but nice to see the lovely Marion Torrent get a start
there used to be no one better in squashing tomato cans than coach Ellis!, but it looks like that's even getting harder to do for her
it's considered an own goal. here's a page with a some game info http://us.women.soccerway.com/matches/2017/09/15/world/friendly-women/france/chile/2563628/
it's the #18, Asseyi. Not sure if the womensocerway own goal version is official, since if Asseyi didn't get touch the ball, than she surely would of gotten a piece of the Chliean defender instead(which would of been a foul)

the usual Marta flop gets her an pk from the adoring ref towards the end. Final score; Australia 3, Brazil 2 here is a replay of the full game between France vs Chile
was looking at the pregame of the first aus. vs brzl game, and it appears that some iflw outfit is after kerr to play for them. what's iflw?
It’s AFLW. Australian Rules Football's national women’s league that only launched last year. Several current and former Matildas and W-league players made the switch to play Aussie Rules last year when they were offered a decent amount of money to play in the AFLW, including Ellie Brush, Brianna Davey and Jenna McCormick. The W-League players have just had their minimum pay rates increased to avoid more of them making the switch to the cash rich AFLW (which is enormously subsidised by the men’s AFL competition.) Sam Kerr who is not only a great footballer and increasing marketable household name in Australia, but also the brother of Daniel Kerr, who was a fairly successful and high profile AFL player from 2001-2013. It would be an enormous coup for the AFLW to lure Sam Kerr into switching sports. They have basically unlimited funds to throw at her, but she has stated in previous interviews that she is not interested in switching.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what kind of sport exactly Australian Rules Football is? I live in Europe, so I never heard of it. What I don't get is: why soccer players should consider switching to it? Judging by the name, it should be something more similar to American Football than to soccer (i.e. what we call "football" here in Europe). Or is it more similar to soccer than I believe?
It's most similar to Gaelic rules football, actually. My impression is that they're both somewhat of a hybrid between soccer and rugby, more closer to rugby - not much similar to gridiron, though.
Australian Rules Football is a world unto itself. This happens when a nation is entirely girt by sea, and invents its own amusements Briefly: huuuuge circular field (130m?) -- like a cricket ground. Four vertical goalposts at each end (two center ones taller, flanked by two shorter ones). The ball is elliptical, and pointed, but soft. Action is non-stop, similar to soccer. Scoring is by kicking the ball from anywhere through the posts: 6 points for between the two center posts (signal: referee in tuxedo tails & tophat points both index fingers forward at hip-height), 1 point for between a center post and a side post (signal: one index finger). When you see skits lampooning goal-scoring signals, this is their source material Advancing the ball is weird: either you punch it to a teammate (who must catch it on the fly), or you punt it softly and they catch it on the fly. A fly catch from a punt creates a deadball situation: the defending team must back off and cede space, and the catcher can take a free punt: to another teammate, or through the goals if she's close enough. Ergo, the primary offensive idea is a medium-long punt to a forward 1-v-2 in the "scoring arc", roughly out to 30m. If she outfights the defenders and catches it in the air, she gets essentially a DFK for an easy score. (Ironically, Commonwealth netball is like basketball, but similar in this way: if you catch a ball aloft, you get basically a free throw from that spot to score vs. no defense.) Any bouncing ball is fair game. I think a punched ball that isn't caught is a turnover (so there's risk?). You can also kick through the goals on-the-run if nobody stops you, although it's less common to be able to run into range in the first place. It is utterly unlike any other sport ... which is probably why Australia loves it. It's not like rugby, because the goal of kicking through the posts from long range totally changes the offensive plans. The $$$ (in AUD ) is crazy good, on NFL levels (millions per year per player: because of the size of the stadia), so if they siphon off even 1% of that, it's enough to just clown the NWSL + all other leagues except maybe Lyon. For the perspective athlete, the foot/header skill sets are basically disjoint, so much of your soccer training is basically lost years. However, being fit enough to run for 90' and judge balls in the air would probably carry over. Natasha Kai played both woso and rugby. Nothing on the planet prepares you to punt an elliptical ball softly, with a perfect spiral, on the run with two defenders tackling your hips and shoulders, to a teammate's hands so she can catch it in the air on a diagonal run. NFL players watch that with their jaws open, and just shake their heads
That's a pretty good description of Aussie Rules. While the technical skills of Football are not that transferable to Aussie Rules, the tactics and fitness levels are fairly similar. I have played Football my whole life and didn't play my first competitive game of Aussie Rules until my early 20's, it was fairly easy to pick up (and most kids in the southern states of Australia would probably have played a little bit in the playground at school). The 360 degree nature of football is very similar to Aussie Rules as opposed to NFL or Rugby where the game is played by teams facing each other. Tactics are also similar in playing zonal or man on man marking, playing with loose defenders, knowing when to leave the man you are marking to join the attack, off the ball runs and so on. A simple description would be soccer where you can use your hands with rugby tackling and an odd shaped ball. A professional male footballer would never consider making the switch to Aussie Rules, but for a woman the money on offer to play Aussie Rules is fairly good compared to playing domestically in the Australian W-League. Although this is sort of being balanced out now. A top player like Sam Kerr would still be making more money playing soccer but for someone who has no chance of playing for Australia or in an overseas league, then a change may be a viable option. Some may even play both, as the seasons don't fully overlap. The talk of Sam Kerr switching probably wouldn't happen if she didn't have a famous brother who played Aussie Rules. If you have 5 minutes watch this youtube clip that explains Aussie Rules for a foreign audience.
oh good, seems like you whole heartedly these days on OFF THREAD posts, here's another Jackie Groenen pics
a tourney featuring Brazil, China, Mexico & North Korea is currently underway. First day results, N Korea nukes hometown China, 2-1. Brazil over Mexico 3-0. goal post highlights from Brazil's win Nederlands beat Austria 2-0, but both teams went missing(or couldn't be seen) at times. Austria reportedly hit the goal post four times, but can't be confirmed, since obviously nobody saw it!(in fact nobody saw the Dutch first goal)
