http://sports.sg.msn.com/footballchannel/transferrumours/article.aspx?cp-documentid=3381212 I did google news search with Freddy and this is what popped up
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? Well he did claim there was interest from Spain. If so, awesome.
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? If this transfer were a woman, I would do filthy, unspeakable things to it.
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? Could you imagine if Jozy and Freddy were getting consistent playing time with both their club and country? That much talent and that much chemistry would be magical for the US. Just look at what Xavi and Iniesta have been able to do for both club and country. But with the way their two careers have gone lately, I would say that this sounds too good to be true.
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? This move would be insanse if true. Adu and Altidore together? Even if they don't play together immediately, they would build on the chemistry they already have worked on for so many years in practice. We've seen LD and Beasley combine well due to their familiarity since a young age. Imagine Adu and Altidore?
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? Read the article folks-- it's nothing more than "I saw Freddy mention Spain on Twitter. Hey look! Here's a Spanish club that bought an American last year. Wow- Freddy's an American. Must be the same club." Don't get your hopes up.
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? If it were Villarreal, it would most likely suck. Probably, he would then spend the first half of the season sitting in the stands or making spot bench appearances. Then he'd get loaned out to a team with no real vested interest in playing him and fighting to get the same kind of minutes he was seeing with he real club. Sounding familiar? I'm hoping it's a Spanish 2nd division side who were middle of the table last year and hoping to compete for promotion. At least in that situation the club would be looking at him to compete for a starting position.
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? A) He's not a striker B) He didn't dissapoint for Benfica this past season
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? +1, but if it did happen it would certainly be an example of falling upwards, even with Villarreal failing to make the Champions League this time around.
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? I'm not sure if it would be falling up. If Freddy struggled for minutes at Moncao and Jozy struggled for minutes at Villa Real, it's hard not to think that Freddy would struggle for minutes at Villa. At this stage, he needs to go somewhere where he's gonna consistently be in the starting lineup and I don't think Villa Real is it, hence I don't see this as a step up for him. Regardless, I don't see it happening.
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? Yeah, it does seem like the source of the source of this rumor is Freddy's Twitter post, which really doesn't implicate Villarreal in any meaningful way beyond the speculation of the article writer. So, what we're going to do is turn this thread into a catchall Freddy Summer Transfer Rumo(u)rs thread. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict we'll see more articles with shaky reasoning like this...
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? I really wanted to rep you for excellent use of the word "Implicate" but I seem to be all out
I love Freddy; love the way he plays but he simply isn't good enough to crack Villarreal at this point. It would be tough for anyone to do so, ask Jozy. I think the creator of this rumor pull something out of the air when he read Adu's tweet. I'm sure there is some interest from Spain (I hope) and would like to see him move there but I just don't think Villarreal is the team.
I think Adu is more than good enough, but based on his previous playing club time I don't think he would.
Re: Villarreal Targetting Freddy Adu? I meant more in terms of payday and team strength. I wouldn't expect Freddy to get much playing time unless he really stepped it up. Talking about hilariously unerealistic rumors is quite fun though.
Why couldn't it be a lower to mid-tier Spanish team that will put him in the starting 11 on a consistent basis? That's all I ask for.
I would settle for a La Liga team buying him and loaning him out to a Segunda team.(that wants to play him!) I think I'd even settle for a Segunda team just buying him outright...he just needs to play!
Based on his production for his club sides, I'm not sure he warrants a transfer to even a Colaship side in England. What has he done on the field over the past two seasons that would make him a quality signing for any first division side in any league? I know people can say the coaches conspired to keep him off the field, but everywhere he has gone, it has been the same. I will be very suprised to see him sign anywhere of note.
True, but he still has a tremendous upside. And all of his coaches say nothing but good things about him. So for anyone who thinks they can get the best out of him, he's a fairly low risk option. And he can't be that expensive.
