Nice article from FourFourTwo Best of a dying breed: The 5 icons who mastered the game both indoors and out https://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/features/us-legends-both-indoor-outdoor-soccer
Hey, that writer looks familiar. (I didn't even realize it had been posted. Supposed to be a few other indoor stories running now, too.)
Ah, here we go -- story on Derek Johnson, Tacoma Stars/Seattle PDL. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/features/indoor-outdoor-soccer-dream-pdl-masl-derek-johnson-seattle
Nice article. Johnson had a good season last year (15 goals, 5 assists, 6 blocks). Definitely helps you appreciate the sacrifice and long hours committed to playing soccer at the lower professional levels. Interesting comments about the MLS players complaining about their six-figure pay. I talked once to a MASL player who was living in his car while trying out for different teams. Most of the MASL guys are the 'tweeners' or guys who might be USL quality but were overlooked for whatever reason. It shows that there is a place and purpose for indoor soccer.
