There was some talk in the summer but the information persists. Barca is scouting FJ.

They are very similar in style of play.

I think it is a long shot, but it would be cool.

Not sure if he is at a Barça level, but cool nevertheless.

He's not even playing regularly at the moment anyway.

Can Barca even sign anyone in the summer window?

I questioned this too but I don't think they can until next season.

Barca can't sign anyone in 2015, they've got a 14 month transfer ban, upheld by CAS. Which is why they splurged so much the last transfer windows.

They can sign but not register until January. So FJ could make the move and play with his current team until January. This is all moot if Alves resigns for longer than one year. They've been keeping an eye on him for two years so his current situation shouldn't effect the interest.

Can't see that happening if he doesn't play for the team he is on now.

I think he recently went 90 (Thursday?). So he is getting games. It is my understanding the they rotate the squad pretty often at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Apparently he came in with a post WC Injury and the team was on a 10 game win streak so they went with what worked. He has 12 appearances thus far with the team.

Would be pretty nuts to have a USMNT starter playing for Barca.

It's cool that they're scouting him, but you have to imagine that they probably scout a lot of players

One-time switches sure come in handy. Hard to think this would be happening without one of those golden tickets to Brazil.

Incidentally, Man City 1 - 2 Barca tomorrow.

Not to rain on everyone's parade, but will he get playing time? Doesn't help him to be sitting the bench....

He must first learn the ways of Sergio Busquets in faking fouls and crying in pain like a b!t(h.

Busi is probably the best dm in the world.

If you've watched him this season you know he doesn't fake anything. Most Barca players don't. Even Neymar has stayed on his feet this season.

Going back 3 or 4 years fj is the only player with the touch, vision and athletic ability to play for a top 3 team in a top 3 league from the usmnt. I thought man united would take him as left back. They should have.

FJ's first touch isn't always superb. He turns it over in the middle of the pitch a little more than one would like. But for some reason, FJ's touch in the final third is usually better. His biggest weakness is he doesn't strike the ball very well whether its a shot or a cross.

I do agree that his combination of pace and vision comes close to Donovan's level

And of course Alvez' tape would also be one to watch.

He's a fine DM, but to say he isn't a diving whiner is to ignore evidence.

Sergio Busquets is the biggest playactor in the world. He makes Carlos Ruiz look like Fair Play's spokesman. He's the worst. The worst. I don't care how good a DM he is. The fact that he's stayed on his feet, supposedly, this year doesn't negate the decade of falling over and rolling around like the Ghanaian sniper got him.

And there's no way FJ goes to Barca. He doesn't stand out enough for club; why would they want him?

The only thing I can see is that their backs are really wingers, and they may see FJ as an attacking threat that could cover either side in a pinch, which I would agree with. I also highly doubt there are any legs to this.

FJ's major problem is his is not imposing himself on the match enough. He is old enough and talented enough now where he needs to lead.
