Breakdown: Sky: 4 BT: 1 Unclaimed: 2 (so far) UPDATE 6/11/18 The final breakdown Sky: 4 BT: 2 Amazon: 1 https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/07/business/media/premier-league-amazon-soccer.html While in general the total cost has gone up, this is solely because there was more matches on offer (200 compared to 168), and the price per match has gone down. Probably signaling the end of the EPL boom in the UK. No sign of the online brigade (Facebook/twitter, amazon) etcetera yet, but depending on how it breaks down, there's a real opportunity, as Sky can only win one of the two packages remaining due to clauses on limits that one bidder can win. Here's how the BBC Broke it down: What are the packages? Package A - won by BT 32 matches on Saturdays at 12:30 Package B - won by Sky Sports 32 matches on Saturdays at 17:30 Package C - won by Sky Sports 24 matches on Sundays at 14:00 and eight matches on Saturdays at 19:45 Package D - won by Sky Sports 32 matches on Sundays at 16:30 Package E - won by Sky Sports 24 matches on Mondays at 20:00 or Fridays at 19:30/20:00 and eight matches on Sundays at 14:00 Package F - to be decided 20 matches from one Bank Holiday and one midweek fixture programme Package G - to be decided 20 matches from two midweek fixture programmes
That says the Sunday start times will be 30 minutes later at 9:00 A.M. and 11:30 A.M. USA Eastern instead of 8:30 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. That means the second Sunday game will end after MLB and NFL games start.
With Meet the Press ending at 11:30, does this open door for the main NBC to televise Sunday's games?
UK press is playing the per-game decrease as a result of BT and Sky calling a truce on rights poaching and working together as partners.
Oliver Kay reckons that the clubs will be more willing to consider bids from tech companies for the remaining packages in an effort to avoid a decrease on overall rights fees.
Meet the Press airs live at 9 am ET nationally, so this is not an issue for televising the late BPL Sunday match. Local affiliates may choose to delay airing the show, as in NYC, where WNBC airs MTP at 10:30 am.
MTP doesn't even air live in DC (also 10:30) Back to the NBC Sunday match issue -- I'd be surprised if anything changes. Saturday 12:30 is a more traditional afternoon window that's been good for NBC. And Sunday late morning is a good match window to boost NBCSN ratings - they'd be taking from ratings hungry NBCSN to give to NBC at an akward time. I think the arrangement works well for the company as is.
The craziest thing about MTP never airing early in DC is Chuck Todd always makes a couple of appearances on the local news (~6:45 am) for a brief conversation about what to expect on the show.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/07/business/media/premier-league-amazon-soccer.html The last two packages have been sold to BT and Amazon, as predicted.
