Today Tre Fiori of San Marino, the bottom country in the UEFA rankings, became the last champion to be determined. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010–11_UEFA_Champions_League here are what clubs will be seeded and unseeded in the first two qualifying rounds (a * means the club will be seeded): First Qualifying Round: FC Santa Coloma (Andorra)* Tre Fiori (San Marino)* Birkirkara (Malta) Rudar Pljevlja (Montenegro) Second Qualifying Round: Hapoel Tel Aviv (Israel)* Sparta Prague (Czech Republic)* Rosenborg (Norway)* Red Bull Salzburg (Austria)* Litex Lovech (Bulgaria)* Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia)* Partizan (Serbia)* BATE Borisov (Belarus)* Lech Poznari (Poland)* Zilina (Slovakia)* Sheriff Tiraspol (Moldova)* Debrecen (Hungary)* Omonia (Cyprus)* AIK (Sweden)* Bohemians (Republic of Ireland)* Ekranas (Lithuania)* Aktobe (Kazakhstan)* HJK Helsinki (Finland) Levadia Tallinn (Estonia) Liepajas Metalurgs (Latvia) FH (Iceland) Zeljeznicar (Bosnia-Herzegovina) Olimpi Rustavi (Georgia) Pyunik (Armenia) Koper (Slovenia) Inter Baku (Azerbaijan) Renova (FYR Macedonia) Dinamo Tirana (Albania) HB Torshavn (Faroe Islands) The New Saints (Wales) FC Santa Coloma (Andorra) or the club they lose to in the First Qualifying Round Tre Fiori (San Marino) or the club they lose to in the First Qualifying Round Linfield (Northern Ireland) Jeunesse Esch (Luxembourg) The draw for the first two qualifying rounds will be June 21.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010–11_UEFA_Champions_League#First_qualifying_round has the results of the draw for the first two qualifying rounds.
Does anybody want to make predictions for the First Qualifying Round? On Tuesday FC Santa Coloma (Andorra) hosts Birkirkara (Malta) and on Wednesday Tre Fiori (San Marino) hosts Rudar Pljevlja (Montenegro). Both of those are first legs.
UEFA wrote http://en.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=1501057.html#unfancied+four+ready+seize which is titled "Unfancied four ready to seize the day."
Why does the qualifying happen during the World Cup? What if a club refuses to release a player for the World Cup?
Only the First Qualifying Round happened during the World Cup. Only the worst four countries (six countries if the defending champion doesn't qualify through its league finish) have a club in that round, and those clubs are unlikely to have any players in the World Cup. The Europa League First Qualifying Round could be a bigger issue, but other than the Fair Play spot given to Denmark (league ranked 16th in UEFA) the best league that has a club starting in that round is Israel (22nd in UEFA). As long as only the First Qualifying Round for both competitions happens during the World Cup I don't think it's a big deal.
