No team has ever won a world cup with a coach not hailing from one of the countries below:

    Uruguay
    Brazil
    Argentina
    Italy
    Germany
    Spain
    France
    England

Therefore no team will win a World Cup without a coach from one of these countries...

This is also true as your comment about foreign led teams and it's also as irrelevant...

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
    A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
    Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
    And she's gone

Hugo in the sky with diamonds
Hugo in the sky with diamonds
Hugo in the sky with diamonds
    Aaaaahhhhh...

We don't have a Mexican coach that is better than mediocre. I would have liked to seen Vuce given a real shot...

I think that by not releasing additional players, they are setting him up to lose inorder to have a reason to fire him.

We've got the up and comers like Rafa Puente Jr., Jaime Lozano, and La Volpe's little bitch Chiquis Garcia. I have high hopes for Rafa and Lozano.

Also I liked Alfonso Sosa, he got screwed.

There are several things wrong with this...

First and the most obvious is that there are no good Mexican coaches. There are few decent coaches...

Second is that any decent coach can learn how adapt to and be effective with what he has.

Mexican football (or any other style for that matter) is not so complicated that only another person of the same nationality can learn it or would understand it... This thinking is pretty irrational...

I agree with the bolded but this has absolutely zero to do with his nationality or not being Mexican...

LaVolpe sucks and by no means has he been the best coach Mexico has had but given how long he'd spent in Mexico, he essentially qualifies as Mexican since the bulk of his coaching work was there...

Unless these people really really believe the coach should be born in Mexico...

I guess I'm in the minority, I don't subscribe to the Mexican coach for Mexican players point of view.

Matias Almeyda has been very vocal about his belief in Mexican players and Chivas has gone through a resurgence under his leadership. Would the fact that he's an Argentina national disqualify him from potentially taking the reigns of the National Team? It's a dangerous and ignorant.

As far as Osorio goes, it's true that his teams apparently cannot put together a full 90 minute performance. That is undeniable. It's also true that he favors a more direct style of play than what we are used to seeing, especially under Miguel Herrera. The issue with rotations has become the big black mark against him and there is plenty of validity to this particular criticism, especially when it comes to short tournaments where a good number of players develop understanding and confidence as a group by playing a number of games in consecutive fashion.

Unfortunately the above concerns have been plagued by lack of context and thus turned into blanket criticisms that only have one benefactor, the press.

Luis Hernandez recently gave an interview to Record, where he claimed the current NT players lack the "balls" to speak out against Osorio and that when he was a NT player, any player who had performed well in any given game would "refuse" to be on the bench for the next game. I find this kind of thinking extremely toxic. As far as we know, every single player that has been asked about the rotation policy, agrees with it.....at least publicly. Even if they don't feel comfortable with the system, Osorio is known a player's coach and he takes that input into account. The players seem happy with him by all accounts so there is no drama there to be mined. The second bit regarding Luis Hernandez is extremely bothersome. The idea of players refusing to be on the bench after a good performance is ridiculous, especially coming from a guy who pretty much went on a retirement trip to Japan/South Korea in 2002 and didn't have the "balls" to decline, knowing fully well he was past his prime. I would figure that a player who refuses to be on the bench after a good performance would apply the same logic to own his abilities when his performance isn't up to par.

Either way, the well has been poisoned. Osorio's tenure will not end well, regardless of how the team fares in Russia next year.

Like Rumsfeld once said, there are known knowns and known unknowns. Mexico is a team that has good (some very good) wing players, smart and technical central defenders and heady midfielders. Mexico is also a team that, collectively, has trouble competing on the physical side of games, constantly having to double up when defending in midfield and becoming tactically disjointed. Mexico inherently will want to set the tempo, regardless of the opponent and will often accomplish this. Mexico is also unable to develop an element of surprise through quick passing in the final third on a consistent basis.

This is why we can take the game to El Salvador and beat them at their own game (sub par tiki taka) but have troubling with Curacao, a team that is physically superior and not all that bad technically. On the other side of the coin, our ability to possess the ball comfortably is what allows us to compete against a team like Portugal, who are equally (if not more, in some areas) as technical but with a speed and physical advantage.

This is who Mexico is. Previous manages have tried to address these issues in different ways, whether that means playing with three central defenders and wingbacks that are tasked with covering lots of ground and pinching in defensively to help out the midfield (Miguel Herrera) or converting fullbacks to interiores who are tasked with cleaning up in front of the defense while also using wide midfielders as interiores to provide an offensive spark (Aguirre).

With the benefit of hindsight, you can go back and sort of pinpoint where each of the previous managers went wrong, tactically speaking. Sven insisted on a 4-3-3 at first before switching to a 4-4-2......formations that didn't suit his player pool at that time. Aguirre dug deep and found some younger guys that made his 4-4-2 work and then decided to go for a 4-3-3 at the World Cup with mixed results. Chepo would not deviate from his 4-4-1-1 and refused to recognize that a double pivot with Salcido and Torrado was forcing the attack to only come from disjointed wing play. Herrera's 5-3-2 became stagnant and the opposition figured him out tactically.

Osorio's ship will sink because of his insistence on using a one forward attack. It's predictable and easy to defend against.

It's the beer bro, remember that midget mentality towards the end of the game against Holland in the WC 14 where piojo decided to sieze our midfield/attack possession only to park the bus to defend a 1 goal lead but then shit the bed by continuously spitting out balls to Holland's aggressive attack?

The absolute same shit happened against Portugal in the 3rd place game and as usual we choked under the weight of mediocrity where we think it's okay to bunker the bus in the last 10 minutes.

Where were this bunkering clowns against the Chile 7-0 when we needed them.
