FYP, the cancer NEEDS to be COMPLETELY cut out. To be honest, I won't feel right or welcome until his ownership stake is zero. x 1,000
How about a business and cultural paradigm where sports teams are understood to be an egalitarian public good and that they would degrade and long-term destroy themselves by chasing anything else? Just a thought.
Well their "public" is somewhat differently construed, but they certainly know how to lean into that aspect given that it's pretty much the only way to (attempt to) justify their exploitive labor practices.
At Illinois they might suck somewhat less. but I just got back from a trip to the heart of SEC country, and oh boy...
62,493 for the Gold Cup game at Solder Field. Is this the kind of crowds we are going to get when we move back?
Chicharito would not get this organization, as currently constructed, half that number week in and week out.
On my first cup of coffee, but did I hear Zoraida on NBC news this morning say there was going to be a big Chicago Fire news story on the 6 o’clock news?
Yes, but "half that number" will make the Fire number 3 in attendance and more than pay for Chicharito's salary.
This is the most hilariously ambiguous thing they could have released. https://www.chicago-fire.com/post/2...illage-bridgeview-agree-amended-stadium-lease
I think they don't want to step on the broader announcement that's coming. And would be sensitive to dancing on Bridgeview's grave in that announcement too. This stuff is all by necessity a matter of public record, might as well go on record about the steps that have officially happened. I'd bet the Soldier Field announcement and whatever "rebranding" is involved don't happen until after the season.
Yeah, I get it, actually. Plus my guess is the T aren't crossed and the Is aren't dotted with with the Park District/SMG either way. Still it's too bad it took so long for all this to get done. A giant sold out soccer game would have been a nice time to say "Hey, guess where we're playing next year!?'
I thought the same thing... like WTF does any of that mean? If it wasn't for being an open secret most people would be confused by this press release. Get it together Chicago Fire... get it ********ing together.
Yeah are they doubling down or getting divorced? Or are they just paying less than they would if the city sued?
The Trib reporter seems to spell it out in clearer terms. https://www.chicagotribune.com/spor...0190709-ts7xrw3ydvcgthcpzrmdfikbge-story.html
Yep, reading it now. They email is even more ridiculous Chicago Fire Family & Friends, Hope everyone had a terrific July 4th weekend. Our First Team kicked off the holiday with some on-field FIRE-works, claiming an important victory over defending MLS Cup champs Atlanta United. There were also exciting and important developments off the field. This morning, the Club is releasing a media alert which outlines news of an amended lease agreement reached with the Village of Bridgeview regarding the Fire's current home at SeatGeek Stadium. To view the release, click HERE . Under the amended agreement, the Fire will be allowed to play future home games and conduct team operations in other Chicagoland sports venues. As part of the new arrangement the Fire will make an investment in the training facilities at SeatGeek Stadium, and will continue training activities there, but the new deal clears the way for the Club to explore playing in downtown Chicago as early as next season. We’ll be sharing details on that in the weeks ahead. As a member of our Fire family, we wanted to be sure you heard today's news directly from us, as it was breaking. We certainly recognize there have been rumors and preliminary reports swirling around this topic for some time now. We're thankful to our Chairman and Owner Andrew Hauptman for his continued commitment to fulfilling the Club's vision and to Vice Chairman and Co-Owner Joe Mansueto for his recent involvement. We're also thankful to the Village for their ongoing partnership and thrilled about the game-changing possibilities this presents for us all. Stay tuned for more official Club updates.
