This year we had fine teams.

Velez and Newell's were quite good. I was shocked the latter was blasted by Atletico Nacional at home. Cruzeiro was and still is a very, very good team - they demonstrated a lack of emotional self-control and their failure, contrasted to their 2013 Campeonato Brasileiro performance, showed that cups and leagues are quite different. Atl.-MG was nowhere as good as it was last year, but had it not been eliminated early, it would very likely made a run far into this tournament. Even Gremio - a team who went undefeated the entire Copa Libertadores - did well given its limited roster and relatively inexperienced manager.

When the knockout rounds start, it's another game. That the 15th and 16th ranked teams are playing for the title tonight proves it.

Yes, Nacional was playing better with some amazing opportunities, and then that idiot sticks his arm that far from his body and intercepts the ball with the hand. Clear penalty, no doubt about it, and extremely dumb like you said. Too bad, I was rooting for the underdog.

I always laugh seeing Bauza, looks like he could Klose's father, or what Klose will look like in a decade or two.

Cruzeiro was shaky from the beginning, barely survived group stage. Gremio was good, but then lost to this mediocre San Lorenzo team (and so stupidly did Cruzeiro). No Brazilian teams in the quarters. No fun.

Anyway, the last two editions we had an extremely lucky Atletico Mineiro surviving by miracle some very weak teams, getting to the final with equally pale Olimpia. This year, San Lorenzo and Nacional, the two worst group phase teams... Oh my... I miss the great finals of the past involving the best Argentinian and the best Brazilian teams.

Whoever wins here is going to get eliminated again by the CAF club in the FIFA CWC.

What an ugly final... a 1-0 win on a stupid penalty.
A pale shadow of Libertadores finals of the past.

    The Pope must be happy.
Now I hope the Pope performs some sort of miracle and San Lorenzo beats Real Madrid in the CWC.

Most of the Madrid "fans" on these boards probably had no idea that the team that they could possibly face in the CWC had a final today. Then again, didn't some Algerian team or Moroccan reach the final last time around?

Maybe the pope should visit the Madrid players, threaten them with eternal damnation if they beat his beloved side. :D

Los cuervos ganando una Libertadores... a lo que hemos llegado.

Y, ya no me extraña si el próximo año el equipo de los Grondona la gana!

Yes, Cruzeiro disappointed badly this time, unfortunately.
Oh well, I guess, congratulations to the hermanos who root for San Lorenzo. After several years, Argentina needed a Cup. Hopefully next year there will be more of a Brazil-Argentina confrontation. The last two with teams from Paraguay in the final, no fun.

    Moroccan. They beat Atletico Mineiro.
Yep, if the Pope doesn't do something, South American football is getting badly crushed by European football.
I don't like it. Our continent needs to bounce back.
