Back in the day there was plenty of shady stuff going around. Way before Blatter and Havelange. Garrincha for example was not supposed to play the 62 Final as he was red carded in the SF. The ref in 66 was suspicious. English ref for the Germany SF and German ref for the England SF. In 70 Brazil didn't move from Guadalajara until the Final. All other teams moved around. Apparently the Uruguay game was supposed to be played in Mexico City. Then you obviously have 2002 WC with the absurd calls against Italy and Spain in their games vs South Korea. That might have been more the Koreans bribing the ref.

You guys notice that with all these shocking news regarding FIFA last week, that even Brazil's media has barely given any attention to the national team as it has arrived at Granja Comary to prepare for the friendlies before the Copa América? Contrast that to the hysteria 1 year ago. Granted, it was the first World Cup held on Brazilian soil in 64 years, and the World Cup means much more than the Copa América. Still, with all the dirt on FIFA, the widespread belief amongst Brazilians that CBF is corrupt, and most probably, thanks to the memories of the game against Germany, it's almost as if the national team and Copa América mean nothing to fans right now.

Sure, I want Brazil to win, and I will watch the games, but these unprecedented developments have cast a heavy cloud over the soccer world. And given the 2016 Copa América may now be in jeopardy (let's remember that CONMEBOL and CONCACAF fashioned a special trophy for that tournament, to be unveiled on the day of the final of this year's Copa América), there should be attention as this may be the only cup we'll play before the 2018 World Cup. But one could be forgiven for forgetting the Copa América is around the corner.

that would potentially ruin their product for a relatively small payoff. Fifa is corrupt but not that stupid. I'm sure some individual players have probably taken bribes but Fifa wasn't behind it imo.

Haven't been paying much attention to the news in Brazil but I'm glad to have read Del Nero is rumored to resign.

Bad news is that I saw an article that said a Sarney may be the next president. It was on Twitter though and I didn't even read the article.

my God this Sarney. There's nothing this guy can't do, former president, inducted to the Brazilian Literary Academy, now possible FA president at the ripe age of 110.

When I read that, I thought in my head there's no way that's Sarney of Maranhao. And I was afraid to ask, not to look stupid.

I just hope that this really is the end of the Havelange dynasty. btw Leonardo has all the attritubes necessary to be an excellent president, euro-management experience, history in the NT, character, intelligence. Of course in reality they'll most likely elect Delfim or a similar stiff.

Nice idea. Tostão is not only a ex-footballer, but also a football scholar. I believe he would be a great leader for our football, but that will never happen, unfortunately. Politics, politics. Never so simple.

a little naive of him to think he has a shot? Just because the current administration has been ousted doesn't mean that the electoral process won't still be largely political. Zico has never been involved with FIFA and won't gete elected president based on his legacy as a player alone.
