AFC sent 5 teams to this competition
    Iran
    Uzbekistan
    Australia
    Thailand
    Vietnam

Iran, Thailand and Vietnam advanced from group stage to R16 which is a great achievement for AFC.

    Vietnam:
Vietnam as a debutante and AFC 4th team was good. They defeated Guatemala 4-2 but were defeated by Paraguay 7-1 and Italy (5th best team in the world) 2-0. They advanced to round R16 where they faced third best team in the world, Russia. Russian power was beyond their limits, so they exit the competition with a 7-0 scoreline.

They were good for a very young team.

    Thailand:
They went to Colombia as third team of Asia. They brought a young and creative squad which played wonderful and enjoyable futsal. They made us all proud. They defeated Cuba 8-5 and Egypt 2-1. They only lost on a close match to third best team in the world mighty Russia (6-4). In R16 round they faced Azerbaijan which had 6 imported Brazilian futsal players. Their match was very closed and some times they had the upper hand. They were 6-4 almost half time but a stormy 10 min play by Azerbaijan brought the scoreline to 7-7 draw and their match went to extra time when they tried to use power play (subbing goal keeper to have one player advantage but a risky move) and that didn't pay off. Azerbaijan scored 5 times to end the match 13-8. Thailand said good bye to the competition with pride and joy. They seriously set the bar high for other AFC members. They are truly now the second best AFC team surpassing Japan.

They are a force to be reckoned with in AFC.

    Iran:
Iran as most experienced AFC futsal team with 6 times WC appearance and 11 AFC titles went to this competition a little unprepared. Consequently, we had a bad start when we lost to Spain (the second best team in the world and two times world champion) 5-1 while we usually draw or lose with much less margin to them. In next match Iran defeated Morocco 5-3 and finally draw with Azerbaijan 3-3. That meant we had to face the best team in the world and five times world champions, Brazil who won the last competition in knock out round. Miraculously, Iran bounced back from our early defeat by Spain and pulled a fabulous display. Iran draw 4-4 with Brazil who had the futsal legend Falcao (Pelle of futsal) and won the match on penalties. We went to R8 round with excitement because if we could win Paraguay that mean we would advance to Semi-final after 24 years (Iran became 4th in WC 1992). Today Iran won the match against Paraguay 3-2. We are on semi-finals now and have to face mighty Russians who defeated Spain 6-2 in another knock out round match while Egypt pulled an upset and defeated Italy (the fifth best team in the world) 4-3.

Tomorrow matches will show the other two semi finalists beside Iran and Russia. Azerbaijan will face Portugal while Argentina should meet Egypt.

Out of all remaining contenders Russia has the highest chance to grab the title and after that Argentina, Iran and Portugal are respectively expecting to hold the cup. This can be a very historical moment for AFC if Iran can pass Russia and goes to the final.

Just wanted to share what I saw in this competition and I leave few clips for you to watch if you are interested. AFC future looks really great in futsal where many nations like Uzbekistan, Iraq or Vietnam can shine beside Iran, Thailand and hopefully Japan in world stage.
