Better than I expected. Was somewhat a debacle, the venue switch happened the day before the mls announcement, most season tix holders didn’t claim their tickets-I’m guessing like me missed the email. Luckily I’m on Twitter and saw “season ticket holders, you have 2 hours to claim your tickets”
.@fccincinnati expect their new stadium will be “far above” 21,000; will also be multi-purpose and have naming rights. #usl #mls— Bob Williams (@WilliamsBob75) June 11, 2018 Thank the Lord, 21 k was very small when your average usl attendance is 24-25 k
School’s not in session during the summer (when they have traditionally had their highest attendance numbers). So no
Since 1913 the USMNT has never played in or around Cincinnati. Might get our very first when the stadium is completed.
Matches two hours up I-71 don't count? Next summer's US Gold Cup match at Allianz Field will be Minnesota's first USMNT match.
Does the US play Mexico? Then we might get a game in Houston. Texas has hosted the USA Men 22 times but only 5 of those in Houston. And those were mostly friendlies against Mexico. The Dallas area has had the US Men 15 times. On the other hand, Mexico's national men's team has played at NRG Stadium in Houston 16 times just since 2003. And will be here again in September. So basically once a year for the last 16 years. I know it isn't as few for the USMNT as Cincinnati or Minnesota (and I hope y'all get games) but it is annoying.
Denver has gotten 4 games since 1996. An unofficial friendly against Derby County in 2001, a semifinal WC qualifier against Honduras in 2008 (after the U.S. had clinched its spot in the hex), then the Snow Clasico in 2013 and the T&T qualifier last year. Meanwhile we get Mexico over at the stadium formerly known as Sports Authority and Invesco on the site of old Mile High 3 times since 2011.
US has to be the only country where national teams from other countries frequently play games (outside of tourneys) not including the host country. strange
National teams, yes. I was going to add club teams as well, but I'm guessing China sees a few of those matches also.
The South American countries tend to play their friendlies outside of their home country. Brazil and Argentina in particular play a lot of friendlies in the US, Europe, and Asia.
How about a World Cup qualifier game in Minnesota on February? They thought Columbus is cold in February, they will freeze their ass off in Minnesota.
