Mine is watching us win the cup in 2008. I had literally just that day got home from Iraq. I had been watching them on boot leg streams all year. It was nice watching it on regular TV. And the cup was nice too.
It was in the old "whoa is me days" when it seemed like things may be lost. this is a new and improved listing
I can't realistically put that in a list of top memories -- there have just been too many over the years -- but damn, that was fun. I hope it turns into an annual event.
Only one? Several first-rate ones, but talk me out of that time we beat the Red Bulls 3-1 out on the Left Coast. Despite the fact I couldn't get supporter's section tickets and had to sit in the regular stands surrounded by only mildly interested locals.
The day the scoreboard caught fire was pretty fun. And we had no PA announcers the entire game. That was fun. Too bad Precourt was at the game. It totally tainted the game now for me.
I noticed that when this conversation comes up, nobody ever mentions the day the stadium opened. That was a laaandmark day for the league, the sport, and the club. Say whatever you want about what’s happened since, but if Crew Stadium hadn’t been built, the #SaveTheCrew saga probably doesn’t happen, because the team would have most likely moved a long time ago.
Sometimes it's the little moments that make something special. Sitting on the grass with a buddy whom I've had season tickets with since the beginning behind the east stands after we crushed Chicago. Enjoying a chat and some refreshment awaiting the Flogging Molly show. That was a perfect moment. Running on the field in Chattanooga trying to get Rob Smith's jersey after an open cup win. Being spun around and to the ground by a security goon and popping back up, putting my hands up and saying "i'm cool, I'm leaving" and he giving me a nod and forgetting the whole thing as i climbed back over the railing. Me not being able to travel with my friends Sirk and Flick and Fid to the '08 Cup Final due to the birth of my son 2 months before. Getting his picture in "A Massive Season" because I texted it to Sirk to say that we were with them in spirit. I was jealous for a while that I missed out, not anymore. The Legends Game was way up there in my pantheon of great moments. Such a tremendous day. When it was coming together it seemed like it might be funereal. It was more like that first glorious spring day after a long cold winter. It was a rebirth of the fun and community spirit that this team has embodied for me through the years. In general, my favorite Crew moment is: the next game day. I look forward to it as a reward for whatever slog leads up to it. I can't wait for the next one.
