On the subject of Mike Milligan, here is a piece celebrating the performance:

I found it interesting that the role was initially written as a potbellied Italian type!

Just caught up. Such a great show.

Can't believe it's Todd from Breaking Bad.

The Kitchen brothers vs. Hanzee was an epic little scene.

Why did he let one of them live though?

Bruce Campbell was a surprisingly effective Reagan.

I was so sure that Noreen was a goner when the Gerhardt kid walked into the butcher's shop (though I was also pretty sure that the kid would not be the one doing the killing).

The writers are really having a lot of fun with this thing now.

I think he spared the one brother to send a message (and later Bulo's head) similar to how Milligan let Otto live and witness what they had just done. Regardless, they know KC will respond in some sort of way.

With that said, there simply has to be a confrontation between Milligan and Hanzee at some point. Just the two of them. That has the making to be a brilliant scene.

How did the fire start at the butcher shop? Ans I definitely thought the wife was on her way to California.

That did seem a bit out of character from a person who had been portrayed as selfish to the point of sociopathy up until that point.

    Well that was fun! :)

It was very much a "Fargo" episode, but it also reminded me of the very best "Justified" episodes, with so many guys cracking wise whilst staring down the barrel of a gun.

    Score one for Peggy!

I guess this episode set Karl completely apart from Walter in "The Big Lebowski". :)

They cut away from the assault on the Gerhardt farm but it's safe to assume they would have slaughtered everyone?

More and more disliking Mike Milligan character. So very forced.

I guess you mean the theatrical nature of the Jabberwocky scene? Yeah that was definitely forced.

On the other hand, I did like his sardonic little smile as he was spraying the Gerhardt farm with bullets.

Nick Offerman's (the drunken lawyer) scenes from the last episode were some of the best I've seen on TV. I was almost annoyed by his character before and he didn't seem to have a whole lot of relevance, but wow, I was wanting more of him after that episode.

    Great!

They will have to come up with a very good setting to beat season 2.

It was quietly brilliant to use Lou Solversons youth to tie the two seasons together.

That opening gang war montage was great.

Also enjoyed the little scene with Floyd and the Sheriff. The tone was somewhat reminiscent of Sheriff Bells musings in "No Country for Old Men".

The scene with Simone and Bear reminded me of the similar scene with Silvio driving Adriana out to kill her on "The Sopranos".
With some "Miller's Crossing" sprinkled on top in terms of the soundtrack.

Floyd's little smile after she successfully made the deal was brilliant.

I've found a new appreciation for Cristin Milioti's performance over the past few episodes. She is quietly very good.

So Sheriff Larsson is a UFO nut?

    I guess you mean Simone?

I think that might end up being a fake-out.

The only thing that gives me pause is how Bear responded to Floyd when she asked about Simone.

I agree it was a bit all over the place, but I think I got the gist of most of what was going on.

Lou and Hank cut a deal with Floyd, who is obviously playing them for her own advantage.
Peggy and Ed met up after Dodd showed up on their doorstep and have the oldest Gerhardt as their prisoner.
Bear found out about Simone's betrayal and may or may not have disposed of her.
Mike Milligan was to be replaced by his racist superiors but took out (pun intended) the guy they sent to assume control of the Kansas City-Gerhardt gang war.
Betsy Solverson seems to have reached the acceptance stage of her grief cycle.
Karl and Sonny were put on guard duty at the Solversons home by Lou.

    Incomprehensible in this way:

    Hank doesn't check on Peggy.
Lou and Hank let Ed run off.
Mike Milligan can kill off a bunch of Gerhardts, but instead only kills the old man that he had previously purposely spared during the turf war. Oh, but he's so amazing he kills off the Undertaker, who apparently was a complete moron.

The writers clearly ********ed up and did a little reset.

BUT! As I am not a total grump, the scene with Betsy and Karl was really really really good.
