Fact or Fiction: The J-league is the best domestic league in Asia.

Won the last two Champions Leagues
Number #1 in average attendance, revenue, player payroll.
Is it the best league in Asia in term of quality of play and whatnot? (whatever criteria you use to judge the best league in Asia).

I think Both the J-League and the Saudi League are the best in Asia.

it's hard to tell, west asian leagues are mysterious to east asia In China they even braodcast Paraguay league, but the only Asian leagues I can see here are our Domestic leagues, J-League & K-League. so it's hard to tell.

but i heard that west asian leagues have world class budget and stadia, so interms of money and facility, I think the whole east asia are far behind west asian leagues

IMO the asia ranking is like this, not only consider the quality of play

    1 J-League
2 SPL (Saudi), K-League, & CSL (all of these leagues doing well in club constructure & marketing compare with others)
3 A-League, (lack of budget and foreigner import, but the quality is good from the live streams I've seen, and good management)
4 IPL, Oily League (Uzbekistan league) and UFL (lack of attendance, and the facility is not as good as above leagues)
    5 Star League & S-League
    6 unprofessional leagues

Looking at this fact alone, K-League is in big trouble. Although the ACL just started and have to see who comes out as champions but more and more money is becoming the most deciding factor in being successful in modern day football. J-League by far has the best foreign talent in Asia hands down and this has becoming increasingly affecting some of the league's continental results. The C-League on the other hand is fastly catching up with recruiting good foreign talent due to the strengthening RMB.

I have watched a couple of K-league games, and the attendance is so low! The quality of play is not bad, but the attendance is really bad, so it makes the games kind of boring...kind of like Serie A.

Well, K-league's attendance though is pretty good averaging about 13,000 per season. (higher than Russian, Belgian and Portuguese leagues) It's still improving every year. The reason why it looks so bad on TV is because of huge stadiums. Most K-league teams use stadiums that are way bigger than they should have - Thanks to the construction boom of the stadiums before & after the 2002 WC. That's why teams like Incheon United and Gyeongnam FC are building European-style compact football stadiums now.

    Gyeongnam FC's new stadium

Let's see the stadium capacity for the other K-league teams,

    Suwon - Football-specific stadium. Capacity: 44,047

FC Seoul - Football-specific stadium. Capacity: 64,677 (Holds the record for Asia's largest football-specific stadium)

    Ulsan - Football-specific stadium. Capacity: 43,550

    Daejeon - Football-specific stadium. 42,176

    Jeju Utd - Football-specific stadium. 42,256

Gangwon FC - Stadium with running tracks. 33,000

Seongnam - Has two stadiums. Both with running tracks. Rumor has it that Seongnam is actually planning to build the 3rd stadium which is going to be a football-specific stadium.
    1) Seongnam 1 stadium - 27,000.
    2) Seongnam tancheon Stadium - 20,000.

    Jeonnam - European Style football-specific stadium. 14,284

Daegu FC - Olympic-sized stadium with tracks. 68,014. (The mayor of Daegu has announced that he will build a 25,000 seater football specific stadium after they host the 2011 Daegu World Athletics Championship.)

    Jeonbuk FC - Football-specific stadium. 42,477

    Pohang - European Style football-specific stadium. 25,000

    Busan I'CONS - Olympic-sized stadium with tracks. 55,982

Gwangju Sangmu - Olympic-sized stadium with tracks. 42,880

Best in terms of structure, attendance, organization and revenues.

But I still think Saudi League has a better football level than J-League. It's a tight fight, but I prefer to watch Hilal x Ittihad than Gamba x Urawa, for example.

Nothing against J-League,too. I'm used to watch some matches when NHK International shows them. :)

I don't know why everyone here has this impression that Saudi football has great facilities. Our "facilities" are the main conduit for corruption in the Saudi sporting sector, and hence they are quite crappy by East Asian standards.

I think both of them are equal in terms of the top clubs.
The difference between Saudi Arabia and Japan is that J-League is a "more" competitive league. For example check the 2005 league table.

    1. Gamba Osaka - 60 pts
    2. Urawa Reds - 59 pts
    3. JEF United Chiba - 59 pts
    4. Kashima Antlers - 59 pts
    5. Cerezo Osaka - 59 pts
    6. Jubilo Iwata - 52 pts

In Japan so called big clubs don't exist. It's like NFL.
The Saudi league has been won by only Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal and Al-Shabab in the last 14 yeras.

    @Koreano J-League Number of Teams 20

    There're 36 teams in J-league, first Div 18 teams + 2nd Div 18 teams now.
And I don't wish, If J2 team would win the emperor's cup, they can take part in next ACL.

yes the top three levels have promotion/relegation

bottom 2 of CSL relegate to China League 1
top 2 of China League 1 promote to CSL
bottom team of China League 1 relegate to China League 2
top 2 of China League 2 promote to China League 1
no relegation from China League 2 to CAL
top 2 teams of CAL, if they reallised professionalism, will be promoted to China League 2 if they hand in the request to C-League commitee

    J. League average attendance is overrated.

    Check the demographics.

    Japan - 130m
    Iran - 70m
    Korea - 48m
    Saudi Arabia - 27m
    Australia - 19m

    Ranking based on average attendance/Population

    Australia>Korea>Iran>Saudi Arabia>Japan

I'm not sure what you mean by "facilities" You mean Stadia?

Is that really a good way to gauge league strength? I mean Ittihad won it twice in a row a few years back and so did some Thai club way back in the 90s.

    J. League isn't that rich. When it comes to money, the Arabs are superior to us.

The media coverage of football is limited here and J. League is struggling to find sponsors, earn hign TV revenue and build better facilities.
