Vela is done in Korea and looking for a club in the US. I fell in love with Korea, what an experience! Now some days to think about my future and thankful for the all the interests from many great clubs. I will make the best decision for my family and career. Off to SLC ✈️ pic.twitter.com/9utZcFYha1— Sebastian Velasquez (@TiaN_Futbol) June 21, 2019
I know hindsight is 20/20 looking back now we should not have traded him. He is still going strong and we never found his replacement. I get at his age when we traded him, most players only had a couple years left. I'm glad he is still going strong
Well, they lost to Haiti. His starting might simply reflect that Costa Rica is short of talent right now.
Also, he faded very badly over 2-3 years after he left us, then retired. He came out of retirement this year, healthier and hungrier, and scored a bunch of goals in the CR first division to earn the call-up. Honestly, Silva was better over the next year and a half after the trade. This is a cool late career renaissance of sorts and I am happy for him.
His resurgence was in Costa Rica - aka home. The guy was always a very introverted/personal person. So much so that it rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. As someone who tends to be more that way it doesn't surprise me that he had this "rediscovery" of form once he went home. When your personal life is peaceful you can be more successful in your professional endeavors. I'm really happy for the guy. He is my favorite RSL player ever.
As a massive introvert, I fully understand him. He's also one of my favorites. He and Javi are my top two.
Danny Acosta has emerged from exile and started for Orlando, even picking up a secondary assist on their first goal. 4th goal of the year for @cmueller1662, 5th assist for @luisnani! #CLBvORL | #VamosOrlando pic.twitter.com/CfLoQQ04P3— Orlando City SC (@OrlandoCitySC) June 30, 2019
I’m mildly surprised, but not shocked...OCFC is playing 3 games in 8 days. I believe they are prioritizing the USOC at the moment, which probably explains why he was in a league game.
Although he is a former RSL player, there are some who don't consider him one. Given RSL's history with signing "past their prime" former players to big contracts, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't come knocking at our door again.
Former Monarchs player Jonel Desire subbed on in the 83rd minute for Haiti. He was one of very few young players on the Monarchs roster in 2017, where he mostly sat on the bench behind Chandler Hoffman.
I don't know anyone who debates whether Salcedo was an RSL player or not, but definitely disagree on whether or not he is an "academy product."
I dunno. Given the events of his leaving RSL for greener pastures, it has been expressed before by some on this board that he is "dead to them". Ergo, I would say that there are some who no longer consider him an ex-RSL player. As for myself, meh. He came up thru the RSL academy, but he didn't really play that long for RSL, so when I think of former RSL players, I don't automatically think of him.
Andrew Brody, longtime Monarchs player and occasional RSL player, announced on Instagram that he's played his last game for the Monarchs and is signing in Austria. Brody was one of very few academy graduates on the Monarchs, but hopefully his departure opens more minutes for Steve Jasso. Also Seba Velasquez is back in USL, and signed today with El Paso.
Not sure moving to such a small club in Austria is a step up for Brody? but he is moving to one of the most beautiful places in the world. Maybe he will get some more exposure and move to a larger club.
If you don't think that you can make it into MLS then why not play where ever else you can? Austria has to be better than Herriman, right?
I wish I'd studied abroad or something when I was younger. Living in Austria for a year at 24 sounds pretty awesome honestly.
