Dropping to that level of non professional soccer though will likely feel more like pick up games than what he is used too. Likely just a love of the game type of move. Definitely interesting. He was a very savvy player, I am surprised he didn't look for something in coaching.
In a recent interview he talked about coaching and how it wasn't a real draw for him. He liked being around the game but the travel and continued displacement from home that coaching would bring was not something he desired. I can't imagine the travel is similar with his new team as it would be with an MLS club.
This signing reminds me of when Jurgen Klinnsman signed for Orange County Blue Star in the PDL. He wanted to play but not seriously, and he wanted to be around young players but not necessarily coach. He played in eight games and scored five goals.
Yeah the NPSL isn't something I was too well educated in. My last 10 minute rabbit hole has been interesting. He won't be traveling much outside the NY area given the conference and division alignment
It's Cosmos B. He has retired from professional football. This is just conditioning, like joining a gym.
Las Vegas officially signs Freddy Adu. They also revealed their away jersey using body paint. https://www.lasvegaslightsfc.com/news_article/show/897910?referrer_id=2988909
Bummer! I clicked on the link expecting a Sports Illustrated model wearing body paint and all I got was two hairy, sweaty men. Yuck!
The one they body painted with his shirt supposedly pulled up probably looks goofy walking around. He definitely drew the short straw.
"Only in Vegas can you have pink in your logo, only in Vegas can you have a shorts-only reveal with the Mayor of the city, only in Vegas can you get away with having body paint to reveal a jersey," Lights FC Owner and CEO Brett Lashbrook said. "You can't do this in Reno. We have the glitz and the glamour. Las Vegas is a different city, we are a special class, we are the top of the mountain. We have a responsibility of being the Entertainment Capital of the World. Our team, our jerseys, our sponsors, our fans, our community has a responsibility to carry this torch of making soccer the next great American sport." drink that koolaid, bruh
In fairness, he is the owner and he has really been active down there doing everything he can to get press for and coverage of the club.
I Tweeted Ian Joy a link to the story about the Wingert send off and his comments about the "fan farewell" party Dell Loy threw when he and Borchers were off to new teams several years ago.
Great for Adu. He looks happy. Hopefully, he gets in better shape and finds a home for longer than one year. The dude is talented.
As someone once accused of owning "like 17 Robbie Findley jerseys..." One of my favorite things to see on Summer Rio Tinto Nights was Findley breaking down that channel during his prime...he really was the fastest attacker we've had, and he flew as if the grass were running with his red shirt rippling. Plus, you never knew how it was going to turn out...a fascinating few seconds - everyone - stand - breath - shot Race on Brother Findley
So, this view that Cosmos B is a glorified adult league may be reasonable in any other year. But, given the Cosmos are not playing, and they want to keep their senior players active, they are on the Cosmos B for that purpose. Wingert may have been talked into one more shot at glory? Furthermore, Cosmos are petitioning to be part of USOC.... http://soccer.nbcsports.com/2018/03/16/cosmos-miami-fc-petition-ussf-for-2018-u-s-open-cup-entry/
I believe there is more to it. In the interview the other day he said he wanted to go back to New York. He has accomplished that. He also said that for his future he wanted to help players but not in a coaching role. To me that means agent or something similar. He can use this opportunity to expand his list of contacts/friends.
The Cosmos feel the former NASL teams should keep their automatic berths as professional teams even though they are now playing in an amateur league, which requires teams to qualify for the USOC according to tournament rules. Who is running this show? Did none of them do any research before switching leagues?
