That reminds me of a game my son's team was involved in where the ref was using American Football hand signals to signal what he was calling. So he would use the Football signal for offside, the holding signal for handball, the clipping signal if a kid pushed someone from behind, etc. We didn't give him too much of a hard time because he was calling it pretty even, but the cognitive dissonance made for quite a few jokes. On restarts he would blow the whistle and make a particular arm motion, so people started saying "First Down!"

Xtabi lol that’s the crappy club in licking county right. I remember my kids demolishing them a few times
Didn’t they wear tie-dyed socks? Don’t know if my kid ever lost to a team in tie-dyed anything [emoji23][emoji12]
Yes. See the theory as expressed by head lying, stinking slimeball Keith Laughlin is that Xtabi is "Jamaican" for "fun people from a fun place who like to have fun" No, I am not making that up. Among the many problems with this theory is that they speak English in Jamaica. There is no such language as Jamaican. Anyway, all the tie die stuff is supposedly Jamaican. I once made a crack about Bob Marley "spliff wear" but no one saw the humor in it. Go figure. .
I think I told you guys how some months ago I showed a few colleagues this video. They were completely shocked. Jaws dropped. .. Wait you did what??? Some of us crazies turned into rather respectable citizens. Seems like a lifetime ago.
I came by to post something similar. Whether it's the kids in the section or the result of father time giving age and maturity, I'd like to think that something like this won't happen should a future coach not live up to billing. Also, local/invested ownership definitely helps, as does social media. The hashtag is a powerful tool.
If i wanted to play a quality rec team that has real Jamaicans i schedule vrs my friend Richard Burton who runs Canton Lightning . We did lose a close game to them our u12s (which my son was u11 as were a few others) vrs their u14 his son was a nightmare to defend for our younger kids but it was a great test and no u12 team beat us unless they were really good which rarely happened . In many ways I wish i could have stayed in Coshocton and continued to help build young kids. Was also fun helping at Canton United. I will always cherish those memories
Sirk's re-telling of that night is one of the best around. Really brings you back to those moments. The emotions. Lows and then highs. What a massive night.
You know, most of us, when reminiscing about that night, tend to think more about Marshall’s equalizer just because of all the symbolism involved and the nature of the goal. Schelotto free kick, Marshall beats McBride AND Busch... the single most iconic moment in Columbus Crew history. But it really makes me happy that Crew stalwart and legendary great human being Eddie Gaven etched himself into that great moment’s history by getting the winner.
