didn't happen, and Vela is now distancing himself. Though I think a loan is in the works for next year
David Beckham to Milan type deal. Winter loan to Barca, misses first month or two of LAFC 2020 season. The loan agreement would be a super interesting one. Does MLS put in a buyout clause with an insanely high number? Does Barca only take the loan if they have the potential to buy? Unlike Beckham, there isn't a pull for Barca from a media/name standpoint with Vela. He's a better player than Beckham, so that's the pull, but Milan was willing do to that loan in large part because of who Beckham was.
Who is this Barco? Is he going on a big boat for half the season? Yay! I have officially become a grammar nazi in two languages!
This is amazing... https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2019/08/31/atlanta-uniteds-martinez-scoring-streak-nears-world-record/
The first half was rather dull, but the second half of the Galaxy-Sounders game was scintillating. 4-3 final score, Sounders, and we slip to fourth. Minnesota still to come tonight against LAFC.
Minnesota is all over LAFC early. 2-0 on goals from Toye, who also inexplicably passed on an open net earlier.
LAFC are in pursuit of the following MLS single season records this season: - Most wins (24, LAG w/19) - Fewest losses (4, LAG w/3, this would be #4) - Most goals (85, LAG w/ 74) - Highest goal differential (record 41, 44 for LAG as of now) This result if it stands could put a dent in the pursuit of several of those
Insane result in LAFC-MNU. I think Mason Toye has officially arrived. We're bumped down to 5th, but still 88% to make the playoffs per 538.
Miami close to signing Exequiel Palacios. Would be the MLS record transfer fee. And, if I’m not mistaken, will give Beckham 5 DPs. Gotta love the Don.
Chicago Fire changed ownership today. They will be playing at Soldier Field in 2020. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/09/13/chicago-fire-announce-ownership-change-and-relocation
It is sad to lose a soccer specific stadium though, but if they were not getting many fans to the games.... Kind of like, if a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it. Do you really lose a SSS if nobody comes to the games anyway?
Well, since the LA Chargers play in the LAG's stadium, maybe Da Bears can play in their soon-to-be- vacated stadium. Or at least a USL team.
I think the current stadium would have been OK if they had connected it to the L. It's too bad because it's a nice stadium.
Update on the MLS territory wars: After the final game of the season, RSL and TFC are the final owners of land. RSL hasn't owned any land since week 3, so it was definitely a surprise to see some at the end. The creator of the map made a final slideshow showing the changes over the season. You can find it here if you're interested.
We lost Utah to DC back in week 3. LA (don’t remember which one) had taken all of the territories marked as RSL in the map above, but then lost them to Vancouver a few weeks back. We then took them from Vancouver on Sunday.
