He is willing to go to Chivas USA next season, but first will test the waters in Europe. “There are a few options in Spain and, earlier, I had an option in Germany,” Alvarez added. “There are agents that are trying to help me out to put me places, but at this moment, nothing is concrete. I’m going to go on trial, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Goal.com claims that Alvarez has interest from Aris as well as French club(s) in addition to the German interest mentioned in the previous post.
Alvarez has in the past rejected offers from Korea and Russia because if he were to leave MLS he wants to play in Spain. There are currently 2 teams from La Liga interested in Alvarez. The only hint given is that they are not Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia or Villarreal. Sporting Braga are also said to be interested in Alvarez. http://www.elsalvadorfc.com/2012-01-06-dos-equipos-liga-espana-pretenden-arturo-alvarez
His agent says there is another Portuguese team interested in Alvarez in addition to the aforementioned Braga.
I hope youre being sarcastic... you've been on Bigsoccer long enough to know that we follow all American citizens playing abroad even if they do not represent our national team. That being said, Alvarez was born and raised in my city. The H.
Alvarez reportedly rejected an offer from Paços de Ferreira a Portuguese club currently last in the Primeira Liga standings.
Arturo Alvarez sucks. He has a huge inflated ego, from what I don't know, but I find him venturing into Europe and thinking he's going to get a spot on a decent club laughable. His best shot is a bottom rung team like the offer he turned down. He needs a reality check. He wasn't even a good player in MLS, yet he thinks he's good enough to warrant a decent club offering him a contract? Good luck with that, Arturo..
Alvarez has rejected another club, a move I believe would have made him a YA pioneer, FC Astana of Kazakhstan.
Is this going to be another Eddie Johnson situation where the game of musical chairs end and he finds himself without a seat...
Chivas USA picked him up in the re-entry draft and seem to want him, so I think he could go there if he needs to. Of course if he dallies too long they could feel the need to move on.
As noted by prowazekii in the signing tracking thread he apparently found a chair with Paços de Ferreira in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
He debuted as a late sub (77') in their last match. Ferreira's next match is this Sunday against Feirense.
So we have two YAs in Portuguese Liga? (and 2 in the 2nd league) EDIT: It was a cup game against Tony Taylor and Estoril
Apparently he is in contention to sign with Puebla if Beasley doesn't return. According to Soccerway he had 2 goals in eleven league appearances in Hungary. He has only made 24 league appearances since moving to Europe but has been pretty productive with his minutes (at least in terms of five goals). http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...nt-says-there-50-percent-chance-damarcus-beas
Videoton seems to have him listed on the 2013/14 roster, so I guess he'll be back in Hungary. http://www.vidi.hu/csapatlap/2013-2014/videoton-i/keret-es-stab.html Which reminds me, I haven't had breakfast yet.
Alvarez is back with Videoton this year, and they're currently in first place. Here's a nice highlight that I shamelessly lifted from the El Salvador forum.
Ya but that left foot reminded me of Puskas ... (well, the fact that the good old Franz also stood on his right)
http://www.concacaf.com/article/el-salvadors-alvarez-enjoying-his-football ...a fortuitous loan spell to Hungary’s Videoton has the Houston native of Salvadoran-born parents on the verge of the first professional championship of his career.
