There's no excuse for the chant. For starters, it's tacky and stale. However, what moral high ground does FIFA have when it awards World Cups to countries like Russia and Qatar? In Russia they do much worse things to gays than chant pvto at them. In Qatar, it's even illegal to be homosexual. For the time being, according to Qatar's penal code, the penalty for gay sex is up to seven years in jail. The country's Muslim population is also subject to Shariah, which punishes homosexual activity outside of marriage by death, and sexual acts by non-married people with flogging
Mexico pays fines & now has the intercom drowning out the chant during the opps gol, corner & free kicks. Now when will USsoccer get fined for making tickets almost impossible via either Racial Profiling, Identification & Discrimination when Mexicans, Hondurans, Guatemalans etc want to purchase them?
In some countries it's state sanctioned animosity and or violence towards gays; in Mexico it's some drunk, idiotic fans chanting. Yet Mexico is the one who's going to get punished. I read about what you're talking about.
