That's sad. We need to keep the process of refreshing the midfield and not miss good opportunities just to get an extra year out of Rakitic who has already been declining.

It looks as though we may be losing Coutinho but keeping Rakitic !

    Tragic

I don't see us selling Coutinho (before the summer 2020).

Some talk about us being interested in Stuani as a Suarez back-up. Old and not-the-cheapest option, but quality and knows Liga. Could be just papers making sound, but he is a good player and we do need someone we can count on instantly. :coffee:

I've read that Coutinho and his people are having ongoing goals about ' the situation ' ...

Valverde coaching us the next season? Smart, sensible move.

Of course a horrible spring can alter plans quickly, but this is good news still.

I mean, Mourinho signed a 5-year extension and was gone within.. what.. half a season? Would’ve been even less if not for his reputation and his high salary.

Contract extensions for managers tell us next to nothing about the future. It’s just a vote of confidence that the owner/Board is happy with recent results. Its kinda like buying a house. Just because we sign a 30-year mortgage, doesn't mean we're locked into staying in it for 30 years.

Ernesto is from Extremadura, which is in western Spain.
Maybe he would return there if you click your heels three times and repeat, "There's no place like home." I've seen that happen one time to great effect.

Wishful indeed. I mean .. leading La Liga by a decent enough margin and topped the CL group. What coach has been fired midseason with that record ?

Best example I can think of is Fabio Capello getting axed in 2007 after winning La Liga in his first season at the club. But yeah... Madrid still waited 'til the end of the season.

Del Bosque's sacking was even worse iirc.

    edit:
Del Bosque's four seasons at LPB:
    2000: UCL Winner
    2001: LaLiga Winner
    2002: UCL Winner
    2003: LaLiga Winner

he was sacked the day after winning LaLiga.

They sacked Heynckes after he won the CL. I think because he finished 4th in La Liga.

I'm loving this but we need to offload a few players...
    We'll end up with *fingers crossed*;

De Jong, Busquets, Vidal, Arthur, Aleña, Puig, Rakitic, Rafinha and Denis...

Good deal. Although with the recent article about Barca's crazy wage bill, it's a bit worrying. Although when Messi moves on, the wage bill should cause a decent dip.

Apparently talks have broken because Arsenal don't want to obligated to buy him at the end of the loan...
