    REALLY????????

    Not Jordan Morris?
    Not Gyasi Zardes?

Look Lichaj had a little stretch where he was not bad. But he got beat several times, he very nearly gifted Martinique a goal with, I dont know what it was... a bad pass or a bad touch... He is also very handsy in the box. If they did not score on the second goal I think there is a good argument to be made for a penalty on Lichaj as he had both hands on his Martinique forwards chest and pushed him down. And he did it at the end of the game as well. He was serviceable but not someone that I would want to rely on.

Finally, an outside defender who does some defending.

ETA: Lichaj as USA's best man is not a stretch. Have to rewatch the game (which I'm not going to do) but he was composed on defense and with the ball. May have had some bad plays but by and large he took care of business in a professional and convincing way, to my eyes at least.

Ummm yes. Morris had a terrible 1st half. Zardes killed more attacks then he moved forward.

Lichaj was a full shutdown outside back all game and very dangerous on the attack. Best overall performance for sure.

Salary levels broadly correlate with the UEFA league coefficient. Excellent game by Lichaj. He did what a player who was solid in the EPL and good in the C'ship would be expected to do.

Eh, Eric Lichaj was not "solid" in the PL.

How has Eric Lichaj been basically ignored until now? It makes no sense.

Started strong, grew quiet, nice run on the goal, had a few worrying moments in the box.

It especially makes the Zusi transformation to RB perplexing. Makes you take a step back and say "Why are we doing this?" or "This is a joke, right?"

Arguably MOTM. I'd like to see if he can play that well at LB, in which case he might be our starter there. Nicaragua won't be that test, but whoever we play in the QF might.

Zusi to RB = Eddie Lewis to LB back in the day, the difference is that was our only option back then

Couple of mental lapses but overall a decent game. No reasons to write him off and a few to keep him around.

He did not look good out there. One decent pass to help set up a goal. Otherwise did not shine against very poor competition.

The difference is Eddie Lewis had wheels. It's more like the obsession with Agoos and Vanney - husky, slow, smart guys with one sweet foot who you just know are waiting to get shredded.

I was impressed by Lichaj and think he should always start over, say, Graham Zusi.

IMO he was the best looking defender. Which in that game I guess is like saying he was the smartest dumb person....But he didn't stick out to me in a way that was bad.

Bear in mind he's still in preseason mode. Tough assignment to just be thrown out and play a full 90, in humidity, for your first game in months.

    I wonder two things.
    1. Were some of you watching the same game as I was?
    2. Have some of you actually played the game?

Lichaj was very good. There is no player that doesn't get beat on the international level on ocassion. NONE. Its what you do when that happens that is critical. His recovery was great. He was very solid in 1v1 defending and used his body extremely well. And he aided the attack a bunch. Clearly, to me, out #2 RB now. And as others suggested, I'd like to see him on the left.

  18. This is so silly:

"Premier League stars such as Wayne Rooney (left) earn an average of £2.3million a year, almost 60 per cent more than Bundesliga players such as Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben (right)"

When one writes an article with this in it, one disqualifies oneself from being taken seriuosly.

What are you on about? I provided the link because the page had the table of salaries.

Edit: I see. The idiot article writer wasn't the source of the table.

"Silly" is very generous. That's idiotic. "And twice more than LaLiga scrubs such as Messi and Ronaldo".

    Yedlin > Lichaj > > > Zusi.

Most consistent player on the field last night.

The Zusi experiment should never have been a thing, but it should definitely have been put to rest last night.

Heck the English probably rate League Two as a Top 10 league in Europe.
