Ha, I actually thought he was from the USA. Just downloaded Football manager 2019 on my phone today and just by chance fancied a start out with Derby and noticed they have him down as a US player.
The US has been trying to call 17-year-old Kelman in regularly and get him comfortable in the program before he might be good enough for England youth teams, but he's only accepted one US youth callup so far. As far as club goes, he seems fairly committed to Southend and a League One debut is probably looming. His footballing background is a bit different from some of the other England-based US recruits, as he actually did spend six years living in Texas including time in the FC Dallas setup. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/11/...n-very-interested-in-prolific-charlie-kelman/
Think he kinda fibs about the part where Wales didn't contact him when they selected him? If true I find that shocking.
Team USA are screwing themselves by having so many mercenaries in their ranks. They need to get back to the era when they had the likes of McBride and Donovan . Not a team full of German and English born players.
JRSG will hate me for saying it but they're becoming 'overly reliant' on a small demographic.. a bit like Ireland. At least Wales and Scotland are producing some of their own star players.
Well, Ireland and USA seem to be constantly looking to pick up players produced elsewhere. It’s a slippery slope. Surely producing players from within your own system is more sustainable.
No. You made a claim. I was wondering how you came to that conclusion. The example above about the kid at Southend is hilarious. Same as Robinson. They are producing some decent players as well.
At the risk of this turning political, I've got to stick up for McClean here. Whatever the poppy is meant to represent, in this country it's trademarked and sold by the Royal British Legion to raise money for current and former members of the British Armed Forces specifically. If you think he's wrong to have ill-feeling towards the British Armed Forces then by all means criticise him for that, but I don't think it's fair or accurate to say that he's showing his ignorance in identifying the RBL's poppy appeal as a fundraising campaign for the British Armed Forces community. It's exactly that.
They do it because the there's not many decent home born players. The scouting system and youth development across the country is a joke.
For me , it was Klinsmann who took the team away from their strengths.. suddenly they had players who didnt care about the team cause .
James Lawrence - the one who moved to Anderlecht. Apparently he has a Welsh parent/grandparent https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/46098642
I wouldn't necessarily call Kelman a mercenary for the US: his father is American and he did spend 6 full years growing up in the US. Granted, he probably prefers and wants to hold out for England as he's only accepted one US callup. But he's partially American by any reasonable definition. In contrast, there are some other players who have played for the US youth teams who were only born there and lived a few months or a year or so, before moving to England, with no familial US connection.
Fwiw, still no Declan Rice in the latest Ireland Squad just announced today....I do wish some kind of decision will be officially made as soon as possible, just to put Greengrass out of his misery
I thought he made them better because with that he brought in more talent, albeit not much, but it made a difference. Without that they would've been worse.
It looks like Rice is genuinely torn between both countries. See the article below. https://tinyurl.com/y72o4bxb
