Some very nice matches. If you believe UK is as good as they've looked you'd probably pick them against Terps. IU over ND. MSU over the hot Madison side. Title holders v. Akron. I think I'll pick Maryland. UM,IU,MSU,Stan.
Great question! 1 Wake Forest 0-1 Akron [WF wanted no part of Stanford.] 4 Louisville 1-2 OT Michigan State [ MS too B1G] 5 North Carolina 1-2 James Madison [UNC knew I had picked them to win it all.] 6 Duke 0-2 Maryland [MD too B1G] 7 Notre Dame* 1-0 OT 10 Virginia [UVA knew @Sandon Mibut had lost interest.] 11 Maryland 2-0 NC State [State thought they could spare Manny Perez.] 12 Virginia Tech 0-3 James Madison [VTech wanted JMU to rub my nose in it.] ++++++++++++++++++++ * Not really an ACC team, but someone had to win this game.
No dissertation. Simply put the ACC got its collective ass kicked. Wake petered out down the stretch after being the top team in college soccer most of the regular season. At least Akron spared them having to lose to Stanford this year. Tech, Louisville and, especially, UNC all blew chances to go much further in the tournament by losing to lesser-rated teams. Duke at least lost to a good team that is peaking down the stretch. UVa, Syracuse and NC State all went about as far as their talent should've taken them this year. Unless Notre Dame upsets Indiana, it's gonna be the first season since 2000 that no ACC team made the College Cup. While statistically such a season was bound to happen eventually, it's disappointing in the context of the regular season, where the ACC clubs dominated the polls and RPI for two and a half months.
Go Dukes! (More realistically, go Zips!) As for the ACC... it happens. There are good teams everywhere, and sometimes good teams lose. The most important thing is that we can all point and laugh at Duke getting worked by Maryland (who - for the record - are also the worst).
So for all the upsets in this year's NCAA Tournament, the Elite Eight still features six programs that have won national titles and five that have been in the College Cup at least once since 2013. So while it feels like there are some Wildcats-and-Dukes come lately, this is pretty much a lot of college soccer royalty.
I never would have imagined the B1G would have 3 of the final 8 teams. Indiana, yes. Maryland and Michigan State, no -- but, they do have experienced coaches who prepare them for postseason well, even if they had up/down regular season.
Maryland 1, Kentucky 0 at the half. Sedjic assist to Elney for the goal. Pretty close game. Pines has done a good job shutting down JJ Williams so far.
Excellent video stream, with multiple announcers and pretty good replays. However, the announcer got one thing wrong - he said that an IU player's 5th yellow would mean he will miss the next game. NCAA soccer rule 12.6.2 says the number is increased to 8 in post-season.

Michigan State- James Madison underway on BTN2GO for free. Can we get three BIG teams in the final four? #14 for James Madison is looking good.
