Yeah, the best argument against Brazil right now is that they've only been at this level for less than a year. It remains to be seen if they can more or less maintain it into the World Cup. But if they can, they have to be the favorites in 2018. I know you want to be cautious since it's your country but as an outsider, I really don't see Germany or France as too far ahead, if at all. France is all potential. They couldn't wrap up the Euro and have been decent but not great since. Spain picked them apart a few days ago in Paris. Germany has also regressed a bit from their 2014 level. Gotta give them the benefit of the doubt because they're the champs and all, but they're not terribly scary or anything.
Another thing to consider is we haven't faced any of the elite teams as of yet under Tite. Arguably, the best team we faced was Colombia, and while we had control in that game, the game was tight. We haven't faced Chile yet. Uruguay in Uruguay is always tough, yes. However, they did not have Suarez. Argentina was still in shambles when we faced them. I'd like to see us test our mettle against a top European side, but it'll only be in a friendly and not an official match. The only thing I can say with any certainty is I like what I've seen thus far and I like the signs I've seen -- contributions from many players, attractive play style, good defensive record, cohesion, etc. These signs are much better than what we saw under Dunga before 2010 IMO.
Uruguay without Suarez still a very good side, and is not Brasil's fault that Arg was awful that day, still the starting 11 was full of quality players including Messi. Brasil's play just made them look worst!
Hey, guys! I know I've been gone for a minute. Got married, bought a condo, etc.! Been a very busy last few months. Regards and hopefully I'll be able to post more often now.
Uruguay is probably the biggest loser here. If they lose their third consecutive WCQ game they really could be in danger. Their next two games are on the road after that. Without Messi I was beginning to think Uruguay would win. Now, all bets or off.
Why would we be salty? We were never favourites for the game. It just gave us a slightly more chance of winning in an already unlikely situation.
Hey, guys. Been gone for a while now, I know: got married, bought a house, now we have a dog. The work. Anyhow. Question of the day: you guys think Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia et al will support French Guyana should FG appeal it's loss by forfeit to Honduras over Malouda's ineligibility? Seems like right up their alley. Saludos!
