Aris should have 3 Greek Super League games left, the 1 cup semifinal, the cup final if they make it, and 6 playoff games to qualify for Champions League or Europa League if they finish 5th or above. Currently, Aris is in 5th place and holds a 5 point advantage over the 6th place team.
When he cuts it back to his right foot, he has a perfect opportunity to lay the ball across to the oncoming Aris player. If he ups his pace too much, he runs into a position where EJ is unable to get the ball to him. I think the run is well-timed. I just don't think EJ saw him due to the double team.
disagree...rule #1 for the keeper - Don't get beat near post. Hopefully next league game Aris can pick up some points on the 6th place team and make the last two games meaningless as far as UEFA playoff participation. Glad to see Freddy on the bench but the team is getting results without him playing to nobody is going to be in a hurry to test him out.
Considering Eddie's problem with the touch, this was a step in the right direction for him. Adu already has a touch. He needs to be working ... well, on whatever Cuper decides he needs to be working on. Also, Eddie's a short-term loan. If he doesn't show anything on the field, there's no stake in him for Aris. Put that poster on ignore but keep working on your English. But his head is down and he doesn't see the late runner. It was kind of a tough hop for him to control right away. And the second defender does an excellent job cutting off his angles and the path toward getting something with his right.
This is a perfect example of why I think EJ just doesn't have that soccer instinct. He needs to run onto that ball and one time or at least attempt to do it . ( Remember Adu's goal on a similar pass who went balls out to get a foot and direct it to goal?) Now that he lets it bounce by him and has to slow down, he never once lifts his head as teammates are streaming past him. Not even one peek. He had the ball in a dangerous position but doesn't even try to size up his options and just tries to get by the defender. As soon as he lets the ball get by the play is basically over unless he can pull a Messi or lay it off to a teammate.
That being said I forgot to mention that his goal today was spectacular. That's what so enigmatic about EJ. On some plays he does the right thing and looks like a world beater, he might not score but he made the right decision, but many more times he'll make poor or boneheaded and timid decisions.
Yea, he could have handled that better with maybe trapping it a tad bit with his forehead, letting it go forward and hitting it first time with the left. Adu though isnt a striker, and isnt fair to compare him there, because also freddy is left footed.
For those who dont know, Aris is getting Europa league spot at Thursday if we qualify against Kavala. Playoffs aim will be the Champions league spot.
How is that possible? Doesn't Panathinaikos have to make the Cup final and also win the league to guarantee Aris a Europa League spot if they make the final.
They'll win it. They're 4 points ahead from the second place, and we have 3 games left. So they only need to win 2 games. And they're playing against PAS Giannena in the Cup semi-final, who are in the relegation zone atm, so I guess they are already through.
Have Adu and EJ seen any game time together since they linked up against Xanthi? It seems like ever since then, they were on the field separately.
it's obviously from an ESL poster, cut them some slack. It seems like he/she is saying that if Freddy had arrived here at the top of his game like right after the U20 WC he would be playing regularly.
if we could only COMBINE ej's and adu's best attributes we might have the world class player neither of them will ever materialize to be!
