Most important game ever played in Crew Stadium (Mapfre) in 2 days. I believe there will be more passion at this game than prior USvMex games.....cant wait.
I just hope the boys can use the emotion and energy to stay focused and play it out. Might get chippy towards the end if it's not in our favor.
I doubt it. The players have been here before, and they know that this is leg 1 of a two leg series. Not an elimination game. They saw firsthand how much one play -- like a red card -- can alter an entire series. Unless you're down 4-0, there's no reason to act like everything's over.
In that case, I REALLY hope he’s wrong. It’d be a nightmare if things got ugly in the stands, and then the series flipped and we still wound up hosting MLS Cup.
Can happen. This past year in the Europa League, Gladbach lost 1-0 to Fiorentina at home and was down 2-0 in the second leg in Italy, before Stindl hit a hat-trick starting right before halftime and won the match 4-2 and the tie 4-3 on aggregate.
Standing room only. #CLBvTOR is a sellout. https://t.co/c5d2SW3Ne8 pic.twitter.com/hHSPDH35fe— Major League Soccer (@MLS) November 20, 2017
For me personally, considering the events of the past few weeks, bigger than any sporting event I've attended, including: Any prior Crew game. Any of the Dos a Cero's. (the three I attended) Indian's World Series. OSU vs. Michigan. The Masters.
I'd be hard pressed to put it above the Champions Cup semifinal I went to when I was in college, though. Or possibly US-Switzerland in Detroit.
I'm honestly surprised to here this - especially US-Switzerland. Or perhaps we are using different definitions. I don't recall being more emotionally charged for any game I've seen in person or on TV for that matter - than every game the CREW has played since the recent news...
Were you at that game? Huge emotional environment. First US World Cup game in 44 years and the first ever at home. When Wynalda scored, not sure I've very heard anything louder. Mind you, I was in the 5th row near the corner flag at that goal. My CL game was Gladbach vs Liverpool--look it up on you-tube.
I get your point on US v Swiss. However, it was not the first WC game in 44 years. The 40 year drought was broken at Italia 90. We hosted in '94. This game is not as big as some others that were one offs (2015 MLS Cup, 2008 ECF). I kind of think it is diminished because we are moving regardless of the outcome. Gonna be emotional, however. The last one is going to be difficult to top in that department.
Among all the other insane and remarkable things going on with this team is the fact that we're in the Eastern Conference Finals with a central defender who is physically and mentally unable to clear the ball. Unfathomable!
Yeah--how did I forget about Italy? I even was looking at tour packages back in the day. But I was more concerned about saving up for getting married to the future Mrs. KG.
Funny, they also put the Reds right next to the office, where HWSNBN will probably try to watch the game. Even they are unimpressed with him, and will likely join in the chants, from what I've heard.
I guess we'll see how corrupt MLS is by the number of mysterious PKs called against us tomorrow. Especially if we are winning or it's tied. Looks like there is a pretty good chance of rain during the game, too.
If there is corruption (and I was only 20% serious) would it really matter? Good to know that there is zero percent chance for this to happen since they work for US Soccer.
