The three of us got to the stadium around 6:30 and were seated when the 50min counter on the scoreboard started counting down.
I arrived at 6:15 and was stood in my spot in about 40 mins before the50 min countdown clock started.
Arrived in the area around 7-ish and parked on North Fourth. Was in line by 7:25 and in by 7:50. I will note that traffic to and from home (Northland) was hellish--that's not the team's fault and did not help (mind you, they may well have shorted folks on entry lines and parking attendants). It was almost as bad as during a snow storm--multiple accidents. I came back down via Karl, zigzagged to Weber and then down Indianola and across 19th to North 4th and parked just N of there. Had I gone on 71, I'd still be waiting in line.
Agreed that it was the tactical thing to do but the result was the negative soccer that was produced on the field. Zero shots on goal doesn't equate to exciting futbol.
The worst was a mid 30s or so guy with a beard who kept screaming Crap like "well played lad, well played" over and over for some occasion when a player managed not to fall down. When a ttc guy would go down just he's literally start shrieking like a crazy person " get off the field, get off the field" like 25 times at the top of his lungs. Substitutions pissed him off totally Every call was a moral outrage to be met with absolute screaming of utter nonsense. And more imitation English touchline Crap like "well done my boys" or "good decision, good decision" . He never said anything just once he said it dive times at least, screaming so loud my head was pounding. I wanted him dead.
So ESPN and Simon Borg both said Santos’ yellow was for pointing at the VAR. Does it matter that the VAR monitor is on the opposite side of where he pointed? He was clearly pointing at the 4th official. There is nothing illegal about pointing at the 4th official. The rule is any player “making the VAR signal” is a yellow. Santos clearly did not do that. Anyone think our ownership will step up and appeal the decision?
Good point, the yellow however seems harsh it wasn’t a total dive but i do think he tried to sell minimal contact he may have been able to avoid. Bottom line Santos needs to be tougher he falls down too much and i understand he is very small guy but stay on your feet unless your taken out . Santos is too soft for me and his passing in the final third sucks. Hopefully he improves drastically next year
That said--that kind of play is exactly what VAR is for. One way or another. It is tough though. Look at College Football. So may plays are reviewed these days, that it really slows down the game. But that's because the reviews were really hit or miss in the early days. Sometimes they did and sometimes they didn't--and sometimes when they didn't, it was very obvious that they should have done so.
I was told by someone near and dear to my heart that his two-pole was turned away at the gate (even though it was let in last game). Fear not fellow Crew fans, the two-pole somehow still managed to get into the stadium.
