So if Dempsey is suspended for the Gold Cup can Klinsmann add a Forward or will he be locked to this pool of players no matter what? If Dempsey can't go it would be nice to see Wood added.

Under the tournament rules the 23 selected for the tournament must come from the 35 in the provisional list. You are allowed to swap 6 quarterfinal round players as well as injured players but those replacements must come from the 35. I want to say this is a change from when the provisional roster was more theoretical than binding.

I understood from Steve Davis' article that Dempsey's punishment (as a pro rather than amateur participant) is primarily MLS' responsibility. That may direct his punishment towards league play. MLS wouldn't have the power to ban him from international play, and JK has actually called up people on suspension like Jones when he was serving a multigame ban in the B.1. I know some coaches have historically "honored" league suspensions with a parallel no-call in NT but JK strikes me as the opposite, he will ensure he stays busy and fit if he has the choice.

slow day at work...so I looked up the actual rules. Looks like they are stuck with the 35 on the Provisional Roster. Although the section "Penalties for Late Submission of Roster" may make it possible to change things if you pay $10K.

I also forgot JK might call a player suspended by MLS just to jab the league.

This might be taken out of JK's hands if US Soccer suspends him (not MLS)

But the way I understood it, MLS is primarily tasked and US Soccer only takes action in terms of USOC participation. Seattle is out of USOC. All US Soccer can do is say he's banned next year for USOC. Oh, the shame, half the time those guys don't play anyway.

If MLS wanted to be underhanded they ban him for the month of July when he's likely out anyway. But I expect he gets a 4 week or so ban effective when he's not in US camp. I'd think MLS would be wise to limit the ban to their own league because if they start trying to ban people from US NT play that is Pandora's box. I'd also think that would wander into problematic territory with FIFA requiring release of callups. "No, I banned him." Too much potential for gamesmanship. I expect they stick to club suspension and JK can play rebel and call him in for country.

3 games, complete before Gold Cup, no conflict.

I expect a harsh ban for USOC but judging by his reaction he already thinks it's Mickey Mouse Cup anyway. He might thank them for the forced respite. I can't believe he'd go that far knowing the consequences if he thought it would actually blow back in some meaningful way.

Brad Davis has been named to the 23 man roster for the Gold Cup. Beasley was not but he could still be called up for the knockouts.

Davis will apparently leave after the Dallas game.

This Gold Cup Roster has confused me. No Morris but bringing Wondo?? I guess the Shea experiment is over in D? Will Davis's knee be ready in time for the Gold Cup?

If the knee swelled and was sore again after cooling down -- that could do it and would not be view-able by us.

    (1) Beasley may be skipping those.
    (2) And unavailable to both sides.
    (3) But he could quit answering the phone like I thought he said he would.

Barnes did get called up for Jamaica and played the entire game but things did not go well on Friday.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/soccer...acaf-world-cup-qualifying-041405848--sow.html

The away goal tie-breaker is in effect so Jamaica needs to win by 2 on Tuesday in Managua or score at least 3 to force overtime.
