You haven't been keeping up then. He was one of the best cb last season in La liga. Don't know about this season haven't been watching.
One of the commentators in the Chivas-Santos mentioned that Diego Reyes was essentially Espanyol's best player. I'm glad it's true, according to what I've seen on this thread, since I haven't had the time to watch European games.
En los foros del Espanyol dicen que los mejores son los dos Lopez, Diego y David. De la pareja de centrales los he leído decir que David Lopez es "el jefe en la defensa que hacía falta desde la partida de Moreno".
Espanyol need to stop being cheap and pay Porto already. They're not going to find a better cb for 7 million euros. Especially in this economy
So basically Reyes beat out the Costa Rican Duarte for his CB spot. The guy hasn't played regularly since his injury early in the season.

Never really understood why he was not given a chance in Porto. This dude has been a lock starter for the tow teams that he has played for in Spain. I'd love to see Reyes in Sevilla or Atletico Madrid.
Surely there must be interest in him from some team in Spain enough to buy him from Porto. Has another year left on his contract, they should sell him this summer if they don't intend to keep him. Maybe not those two teams, though.
