Just read this article, and didn't find much here about him: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/teen-star-diego-fagundez-driving-101232724--mls.html If the USA can secure him, he sounds like a promising attacking player.
This is going to sound silly.... If people want CONCACAF to grow in quality, wouldn't it be better NOT to poach the entire region's great players? For starters, there will not be room for all of these players in our pool and secondly, the US has a population of close to 330 million people..... roughly around 2/5 of that population plays sports. So assuming out of half of that(the male half, I would think you could develop a pool of world class soccer players.... Don't ya think?
he has lived in the Boston area since he was 5. he speaks with an American accent. We would hardly be poaching if he played for us.
It did sound silly for a few reasons. First, Fagundez is from Uruguay which is not in CONCACAF. Second, he moved to the US when he was 5 so has spent most of his life here and has developed his game under the American system. Third, Uruguay doesn't seem to be too interested in him as they've called him up once and didn't play him much.
I'm going to go ahead and kill two birds with one stone. Ok, his situation with Uruguay may be the case but I believe that he has publically stated that he would prefer to play for Uruguay over the US. Now I don't know how much has changed but since he made those comments but as of now, Fagundez is dead set on playing for Uguguay and has 0 interest in playing for the US.
I think because women's soccer started about the same time in the world figurative speaking, thus our program didn't give the rest of the world 50 year head start.
I'm sorry, but that's bullsh*t. They're the best team on the planet because they started the program around the same time as many of the traditional powers. Their coaching is honestly just as subpar as the men's is at the domestic league and youth soccer levels. And both national team coaches have relatively accomplished managers.
I think the problem is that he is not eligible to play for the USA. He is stating that he is ready to play for the only national team he is eligible for and that is perfectly understandable.
Just want to confirm that you do know Uruguay is not in Concacaf, just want to make sure you know that.
Yeah...... I assumed that Fagundez was from Central America and didn't care to look up his birthplace. Chalk it up to laziness and not stupidity.....
http://www.starsandstripesfc.com/mls-usmnt/2014/12/22/7434331/diego-fagundez-usa-citizen-uruguay Doesn't look like Fagundez will play for the US
His role with the Revs has diminished to the point that he doesnt play much at all. No big loss for the NATs as we have many players as good, if not better than him. Frankly, he's too small for the international game
