I say germany send their u-17 team to confed cup. Considering how crappy the champions of that tournament play in world cup. :)

Did you really say we were "outplayed" by Argentina on their forum???

Why does it matter? We beat them, and you're arguing over who outplayed who. And for the record, yes, I did say that and I would say it on this forum too. They created more clear chances than we did. They didn't take them. We did.

You and I have a different opinion in the definition of "outplayed".

And why does it matter? This is a forum for discussion....you discussed a point, and I am disagreeing with it. I just did not believe the Argentine Forum was the proper venue.

I define "outplayed" as who created for themselves the better opportunity to win the match. The kinds of chances they missed were pristine, and should've been made by forwards worth their salt. Palacios missed a chip in a one-on-one, Boateng makes a goal line clearance which could've easily been poked in amidst the chaos, not to mention Higuain being 100% through on goal by a poor Kroos header and putting his shot wide from outside the box. We didn't create chances on that level of ease with the exception of the Höwedes header and the Götze goal, IIRC.

    Fair enough.

What about our shots straight to the keeper? 1 inch wider and who knows....a game of what-if's at the end of the day.

And the Higuain chance wasn't even a chance they created. We did, via Kroos...they failed to do anything with it so that's that.

Please...Germany outplayed by Argentina? Are you fucking kidding me?

Not only was it a very close match...very tight and very close - but I think we were the better team in the end...and you are saying they OUTPLAYED us???

They didn't outplay us by much. It's very much a game of what-ifs, though, absolutely.

Opinions... Everyone has them. Mine is that they did. Yours is that they didn't. We can't objectively prove it either way, so why worry? Let's leave this thread to what it's supposed to do; celebrate.

My problem with people saying that Argentina played better was that never in the match did they look like they had any control of the game, its pace or its outcome. I was mostly worried that they were going to get lucky and score one during one of Germany's famous lapses in concentration, which we saw a lot of during qualifying. There were only about two or three instances in the game when they looked threatening. Their solid defense made the game incredibly close, but the offensive opportunities being created didn't really highlight a superior Argentina.

Speaking of celebrating: I just found out that one of the guys is staying in the same room in the Sheraton that I was staying in while I was in Rio from June 6 to the June 11. Ha! I tried to do some sleuthing by following everyone on various social media platforms, and the views that Toni Kroos posted on Facebook looks a lot like the view I had from my room. So I'm just going to pretend that that's the case. It's not quite one degree of separation, but it'll do.

Congratulations and very well done. I am happy for my German friends and, without doubt, the best team in the tournament deservedly won the World Cup. Germany showed what a real TEAM is like...the players, coaches, trainers, back room staff, everyone should be incredibly proud of what the TEAM accomplished....lessons for all of us. Well deserved and well done..!!

...Well I was 18 when England won the world cup in 1966....I watched the final on T.V. but did go to all the games at Goodison Park In Liverpool....(that was the Brazil, Portugal, Bulgaria, Hungary group)...I also was there for the Portugal vs North Korea 1/4 final match....one of the greatest World Cup games ever.....I feel I know what good soccer looks like....and Germany plays the best soccer in the world right now.

I would agree with you, but it's a matter of opinion. I don't see the point in arguing about it. Both teams had some clear cut chances..... Deutschland just made sure they finished!! [emoji41][emoji2]
