Surreal scenes in a LigaMX game when Veracruz - whose players haven't been paid in several months - staged an on-field protest by just standing around, during which time Tigres scored twice:
One thing that is very very good about MLS compared to a lot of allegedly great leagues is this: The paychecks will be regularly delivered and will not bounce. I don't know how far down the US pyramid you have to go to find teams that don't meet payroll. But, it's a bit of a crime that teams in the top tier of a major soccer nation such as Mexico are not making their payroll.
Excellent point BalanceUT. Speaking for myself I tend to lose sight of things like this. I see these guys as professional athletes that don't have to worry about monthly bills, putting food on the table, etc. When it gets right down to it they need their paychecks every couple of weeks just as much as the next guy.
call me insensitive, but how the hell is our GM not going down there and offering these players spo... oh, yeah.
This happens in a lot of central and south american leagues, unfortunately. It's strange to me, because the laws in this country would absolutely destroy a team if they didn't make payroll. Are they not as severe in these other countries?
I served a mission in Guatemala. My experience is that the laws in Central America are...flexible, to say the least. It's probably a lot cheaper to pay off the cops than it is to pay your players.
I genuinely don't know but this doesn't fell like the right call her... but I would think it would be an indirect free kick, not direct/pk. Which law is this in?
Couldn't that have been handled the same as if a ball boy had accidentally picked up a ball that was heading out of bounds? I think the ref could have given the player a warning and been done with it.
I thought indirect FK was only when a GK handled the ball on a pass from a teammate? Unless I'm missing other laws that result in an indirect FK
to be indirect in the box: pass-back (which you alluded to) GK picks up a throw in from his/her team Double touch (drops ball to play with feet but then picks it back up) Dangerous Play (player on the floor - very rarely called) ETC (see below link) Also, according to the FA page, this was handled correctly
The Alphonso Davies assist from yesterday's Champions League rout of Barcelona by Bayern Munich is absolutely jaw-dropping.
He was doing that all night to their defense. They had no answer other than to foul him. I'm also excited that both Barca and Man City both got eliminated.
I remember giving Herrera and/or Lennon shit for getting burned by Davies a few years back yeah, that was wrong
Davies makes it look so effortless including turning on the afterburners that it becomes easy to mistake the opposition as slow and lacking.
