If you don't admire that, you don't like soccer. That's freaking awesome! He was stumblin', bumblin', yet getting it done by never giving up, putting the team in his own shoulders. Wonderful.
How do you not celebrate that? He just has that look as if this is a routine goal for him. I'd be going crazy with the celebration.
That makes sense. I didn't even check the score. I still probably would've celebrated a little. Those goals don't happen often.
Tim Weah had a great strike (1 of 3) for the baby Nats at the 40 second mark. It's fun to see such a dominant performance:
Was there something specific I missed that bugs you? If it was a league match then sure let's celebrate on the inside but this was the winning goal of a tournament match, I think their reaction was to be expected. If DC United did this in that one Open Cup Championship game I don't remember at all then you better believe I would have reacted like that.
everyone running to the bench like that and celebrating? I dunno. I find celebrating own goals in general to be in bad taste. Give each other high fives on the field, but the theatrics at the 0:23 mark make you think someone just hit a golazo. I get the importance to the game, but still. It just... I dunno, (irrationally) irritates me. Reminds me of when football players/fans/coaches celebrate a kicker missing for the other team. Not getting blocked, straight just missing the kick. It's a weird "ha ha! you suck!" type of thing that I just don't like.
I can understand that. I think it was more of a "we're gonna win!" celebration as opposed to "that guy f**** up!" celebration but I can see where you're coming from.
There was a Samoan guy on my AYSO team when I was 14 that would attempt this on all kick offs. He had the power and distance, but never could kick it straight enough to end up on target. Also, AYSO goalkeepers generally stay much closer to the goal than this.
My junior year we had a senior who did this against Roland Hall, I was the 10 on the team and instead of back passing me the ball on the opening whistle he said "******** it, let's try it." Sure as shit, bagged the goal, it was incredible.
Kyle Christensen scored off a kick-off for Layton High in the state final against Viewmont back in 2003. Same situation. Keeper wasn't paying attention so he took the shot.
