Made it to Rank 3 on my Hunter and Rank 4 on my Titan last night, played about 10 games on each. Great way to up the light level, started at 357 and finished at 361.
Really? I'm digging it. I prefer it over Rift or Clash for Iron Banner. For me Iron Banner has been great to rank up my light level. Got my Hunter to 369 through playing IB.
It's an objective game mode, and I'm finding the majority or people don't PTFO. Especially when you're solo-queuing. Pick up the crests. Confirm or deny the kill. Don't focus on your k/d. So frustrating. My light level increase has been a sloooooooow trickle. Got a 358 chest piece from a DO package, and was thrilled. Haven't been able to crack 355 on anything else. So for something that's considered "end game", it's not going as quickly for me as it seems to be for others. It's raining post-match loot, I can't complain about all the legendary gear I've received, but I don't need FIVE 354 shotguns. Nobody does. And the gulf in light levels, with a powers matter game mode, dishes out a ton of humiliation. I got to rank 5, so filled that node in my RoI record book.
I've had the exact opposite experience than you, sorry to hear. I'd say 80% of the post game drops have been higher light levels, the same ones I just infuse into my other two characters to raise their light levels. My Warlock has gone to 364 from 360 just from me infusing weapon/armor from drops from my Hunter. Not to mention I've lucked out and have gotten some great artifact drops, so I infuse them into other artifacts and all 3 characters have high artifact light levels (well high for their current levels). My faction rewards have all been higher light level packages so far, guess I've lucked out. Run heroic strikes, it will get you to 365 easily, after that it's exotic weapons and faction packages. I had 8 exotic engrams waiting to decode once I hit 365, once I hit it each one was above my level. Two decoded at 370.
Supermacy is by far my favorite game mode, so glad they added it. I will agree with the drops, I only received maybe one or 2 drops higher then my current LL, haven't been able to break the 340's... I was happy to check that off of my RoI
I currently have four of Shiro's bounties which need to take place in Archon's Forge (vandals, captains, servitors, and dregs), another which is to kill 300 Fallen, and a sixth bounty for 100 axe kills. AF is supposed to be a great source for higher-LL gear. Between that and my bounties, looks like I'll be spending a great deal of time in AF in the near future.
If they're blue items, I think 340 is what they're capped at. Or at least that's the highest blue engrams will decrypt at. You'll need legendary (or better) engrams to get higher than 340. If you pick up a blue item (not an engram), it can be higher than 340. I haven't gotten either of the weapons, Saladin's Vigil (pulse rifle) and But Not Forgotten (sniper rifle). Both of those can drop up to 365. I did get a couple forge-specific items, the leg armor (Stellar Impact Greaves - 351) and class item (Stellar Impact Mark - 353). The armor pieces can drop up to 365, while class items can be up to 385. Other than that, I've gotten a ton of class items (Titan marks) ... I'm talking like upwards of 8-10 various ones, all at/around LL 350, most of which I've used for infusion fodder.
Yes, rare engrams will decrypt at 340 highest (although I did have 3 blue engrams decrypt as Exotic from the Cryptarch) I did Heroic strikes to complete an Exotic Quest and during those I was getting 365 rare engrams as drops. Run Heroic Strikes to get to 365 then after that it's all faction, Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris and Exotic Engram decryptions. As well as running Heroic Strikes with a Skeleton Key, then the item in the chest can go up to 385. Here's a breakdown... Up to 365 Light Level Legendary Engrams Heroic Strikes Challenge of Elders completion Up to 385 Light Level Iron Banner Trials of Osiris Raids Nightfall Strikes Heroic Strikes with Skeleton Key Exotic Engrams Faction Rewards Archon's Forge Weekly Crucible Bounties Crucible Match Rewards
from my understanding, you wear your highest gear, you should get drops higher than that right? or is it all random?
Yes, the new items light levels are based on your current light level when you get the drop, or decode the engram.
Yes, you SHOULD, but it's not always the case. Definitely hinges a lot on RNG. I think I can currently max my Titan to 353/354. But I'll still get drops or decode engrams somewhere between the high-340s to just under my current light level.
Updated this to show the new changes that Bungie announced today. As of Tuesday's update and release of the Heroic Wrath of the Machine Raid, light level will rise to 400. Up to 385 Light Level Legendary Engrams SIVA Heroic Strikes Archon’s Forge Up to 400 Light Level Iron Banner Trials of Osiris Raids Nightfall Strikes Heroic Strikes with Skeleton Key Exotic Engrams Faction Rewards Weekly Crucible Bounties Crucible Match Rewards
Anyone buy the Trespasser from Xur today? How about the gauntlet engram? It's not a "legacy" one, meaning it'll decrypt into something with current LL. Or, hold onto it until Tuesday when the light cap is increased to 400.
New patch dropped today, Heroic Raid goes live at 5pm EST. Light level increases to 400 at that point.
More exotic weapons are getting ornaments: the Last Word, Bad Juju, Red Death, Black Spindle, Thorn. Bungie tweeted out that they'll be available during Festival of the Lost, which is rumored to happen next week (over/during Halloween). Bad Juju's look amazing. As if Bad Juju couldn't get any more awesome... the patch brought Ornaments for it! pic.twitter.com/WUEVmF3ywN— Planet Destiny (@DestinyNews_net) October 18, 2016
Played a Heroic Strike last night, it was a friggin gold mine. Went from 371 to 373 from just the strike.
It's the same, recommended 350, but the rare engrams have max light of 365 now and the Legendary engrams were dropping high 370's for for. Even got an exotic engram that decoded 376. I played with my Hunter, but a Skeleton Key dropped and I was able to open a chest (I've had bad luck with the drop rate for the skeleton keys, ran 15 strikes before and got only one key) and one of the rewards was a 376 Darkblade Helm for the Titan. Never got that before, it's pretty cool looking.
My bro was telling me this morning that he ran a ton of Archon's Forge last night, and over the course of a couple hours went from 352 - 360. I know what I'm gonna try tonight or tomorrow.
