It does seem like DC United is involved in some multi-year study on how fans react when a team picks up reviled players.
This is what I can piece together from the MLS waiver, free agent, etc. site: Waived: Jara, Pedroso and Bustamante. Free Agency: Hamid and Amarikwa. Re-entry: Edwards and Robinson.
DCU's active roster: Goalkeepers (1): Chris Seitz Defenders (5): Steven Birnbaum, Oniel Fisher, Joseph Mora, Chris Odoi-Atsem, Donovan Pines Midfielders (9): Paul Arriola, Yamil Asad, Emmanuel Boateng, Russell Canouse, Felipe Martins, Júnior Moreno, Moses Nyeman, Ulises Segura, Griffin Yow Forwards (1): Ola Kamara Also from United: United are in negotiations with Frédéric Brillant, Earl Edwards Jr., Bill Hamid, Lucas Rodríguez and Gordon Wild to bring them back for the 2020 season. The article states they re-signed Seitz, which is why he's on the list.
Interesting notes from Goff's most recent write up on our roster moves were saying that they want to sign someone to replace Lucho as opposed to that replacement being Titi. That would make some congestion in the midfield with Asad, Arriola, Titi and whomever they get to replace Lucho. That said, people will have to sing for their proverbial supper and thats not all bad versus the DM situation. It would seem like there would be quite the logjam at DM with Moreno, Canouse and a very expensive backup in Filipe who makes more than the both of them and Durkin combined. Gotta figure he's coming back in June based on how much he's playing in Belgium these days.
MLS Musical Chairs Participant Lists are out. These guys aren't too overpaid: Wing: Justin Meram RB: Steven Beitashour LB: Connor Maloney CB: Harold Cummings
If he's paid at all, he's over-paid ........ probably just me, but I really cannot stand this guy, have hated him since his college days
Can’t help but notice, Juventus’ kit next year has a giant Jeep sponsorship going right across 3 Adidas stripes. https://cdn.footyheadlines.com/amp/3075494044679503313
My understanding (unless the rules have changed again) was that when Hamid left on a free, DC still had his rights because they had made legitimate qualifying offers to him. I understand if that rule is no longer the case, because Calvinball, but I have not seen anything notifying of that change in rules.
I don't follow the league enough to know if those guys are any good, but I hope Ben has learned by now that you need 3 guys that can play each fullback spot the way he runs his guys.
From Matt Doyle's column re Kelyn Rowe. "I'm not sure Rowe is a Ben Olsen type of player, but if D.C. United offer him the No. 10 shirt – playing underneath Ola Kamara and alongside solid wingers like Yamil Asad and Paul Arriola – that could be an attractive spot." https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...ne-silly-season-moves-i-want-see-window-opens I'd be ok with that - who knows how an imported No. 10 would adapt, so having Rowe to plug in would be a good hedge. But agree with Doyle's caution about "Olsen type of player."
What an asinine idea. When Rowe was good, it was because he was a great crosser of the ball. Now that he's bad, Doyle wants to give him the keys to the car? I'm not opposed to the idea of signing Rowe at all. But he would be late game sub at best, not the focal point of the offense.
